Ulsan Port Authority (UPA) participated in the Asia Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference 2023 (ALMAC 2023) along with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) in Hong Kong. At the event, they conducted sales activities to promote Ulsan Port, targeting foreign port logistics operators and companies, UPA said on Nov. 22.

ALMAC 2023 took place under the theme ¡°Future-proofing Supply Chains - Diversification, Decarbonization and Digitalization¡± at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center from Nov. 21 and Nov. 22.

Ulsan Port Authority (UPA) attends the Asia Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference 2023, which took place from Nov. 21 to Nov. 22 in Hong Kong, to promote Ulsan Port.

About 5,000 officials from Asian port operator and related institutions, including the ones from Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Taiwan and India, participated in the conference.

MOF headed a Korean delegation, including four port authorities from Ulsan, Busan, Incheon and Yeosu-Gwangyang, as well as Korea Maritime Business Corp. (KOBC).

UPA was the nation¡¯s sole port authority to participate in ALMAC 2023 along with Ulsan Port user company D&B Logistics.

UPA set up a publicity pavilion to promote Ulsan Port, looking to be a future energy hub and conducted one-on-one consultations and marketing activities on how to utilize logistics warehouses at the backwater area, along with the Ulsan Port user company, targeting about 30 companies.

UPA also introduced Ulsan Port as an eco-smart port leading an energy logistics hub at an IR session, the last of ALMAC 2023.

ALMAC 2023 served as an opportunity for UPA to agree to discuss follow-up steps to promote future cooperation, such as building a port logistics regime with the Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (Qingdao FTZ).

Ulsan Port Authority said on Nov. 18 UPA succeeded in a ship-to-ship bunkering targeting a supersize methanol dual-fuel propulsion containership.

UPA Succeeds in Super-Size Containership Methanol Bunkering

Ulsan Port Authority succeeded in the ship-to-ship bunkering targeting a super-size methanol dual-fuel propulsion containership, UPA said on Nov. 19.

It marks the nation¡¯s first methanol ship-to-ship bunkering, and the bunkering is the world¡¯s first one targeting more than 10,000 TEU containership.

The ship involving in the successful bunkering is a 16,200 TEU ship, one of 18 methanol dual-fuel propulsion containerships whose shipbuilding was awarded to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries by A.P. Moller-Maersk.

The ship was supplied with 1,000 tons of methanol at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries headquarters prior to its test-operation on Nov. 18.

The increasing number of global shipping companies has been scrambling to place orders to build eco-friendly ships in accordance with decarbonization regulations of the International Maritime Organization.

Of late, green methanol has been highlighted as low-carbon or no-carbon ship fuel, so methanol-fueled ship orders are on the rapid rise.

As such, Korean and foreign ports have been scrambling to build eco-friendly ship fuel supply infrastructure and pursue institutional reform to preoccupy new markets.

UPA has been implementing a new methanol bunkering business at Ulsan Port in cooperation with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

UPA President Kim Jae-gyun said, ¡°Ulsan Port¡¯s successful methanol ship-to-ship bunkering is expected to further ramp up the competitiveness of the port, and with Ulsan Port, designed as an eco-friendly ship fuel supply port by MOF, we will promote full support with related organizations and industry circles to further spur the use of eco-friendly fuels, such as methanol.¡±
