Shinhan Bank announced on Dec. 4 that it will implement a face authentication-based ATM withdrawal service utilizing customer facial recognition as biometric information for the first time in the financial sector.

The face authentication-based ATM withdrawal service allows customers to safely and conveniently process withdrawals and transfers through facial information authentication at ATMs without the use of bank cards, passbooks and others. 

Customers who wish to use this service can register their facial information in advance through the SOL App, the official smartphone app of Shinhan Bank or at a branch. 

The face authentication-based ATM withdrawal service will begin at 300 of Shinhan Bank¡¯s ATMs nationwide first and will be gradually expanded in the future.

Shinhan Bank first introduced a service utilizing facial authentication information on the SOL App in February 2023.
 
By applying the service to ATMs, Shinhan Bank will be able to provide safer financial services by utilizing facial authentication information at major customer contact channels including branch counters, digital desks and smart kiosks. 

Since 2017, Shinhan Bank has been providing services such as ATM inquiries, withdrawals, and transfers through palm vein authentication. 

At smart kiosks, customers can process various banking services such as opening deposit and withdrawal accounts, the issuance of debit cards and various tax returns through face or palm vein authentication. 

Moreover, the bank is continuously expanding services utilizing biometric authentication, such as SOL logins, withdrawals at branch windows and SOL currency exchanges through facial recognitions.

¡°We will take the lead in creating a biometric authentication ecosystem in the financial sector in line with the Korean government¡¯s roadmap for the promotion of biometric authentication,¡± a Shinhan Bank official said. 

¡°We will continue to expand biometric authentication service channels down the road.¡± 

Meanwhile, Shinhan Bank developed an ATM abnormal behavior detection service using biometric information such as facial information to prevent voice phishing schemes and is applying it to ATMs nationwide. 

The bank is doing everything it can do to create safe and comfortable banks by depositing a total of 30 billion won to support and prevent voice phishing victims.


Opening Shinhan Pension Lounge Channel in Ilsan

Shinhan Bank announced on Nov. 22 that it has opened Shinhan Pension Lounge in Ilsan, which provides professional retirement asset management counseling to customers in their post-retirement lives.

Shinhan Pension Lounge is a specialized channel where private banking (PB)-trained pension experts and retirement pension counselors present pension solutions through customized one-on-one consultations, including comprehensive pension consulting, home pension consultations, health insurance premiums, tax consultation, and post-retirement asset management.

Customers can use Shinhan Pension Lounge by making a reservation in advance. 

They can make a reservation by calling the dedicated phone number or visiting their nearest branches. 

The lounge¡¯s business hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. 

To boost customer accessibility, Shinhan Bank selected Ilsan, an area with a relatively large senior population, and opened Shinhan Pension Lounge Ilsan on the 4th floor of the Ilsan Central Branch. 

On Nov. 27, Shinhan Pension Lounge Nowon opened on the 3rd floor of Shinhan Bank¡¯s Nowon Station Branch in Seoul.

Shinhan Pension Lounge offers a wide range of life solutions including healthcare, funeral and nursing care services, hobby and leisure one-day classes and consultations with lawyers and tax accountants specializing in wills, trusts, inheritance and gifts. 

¡°We will strengthen customer management functions so retirement assets can be systematically managed from formation and management to pension receipt,¡± Park Eui-sik, head of the Pension Business Group at Shinhan Bank.
