Gangwon Forestry Exhibition 2023 is being held at the main venue of Gangwon World Jamboree Center in Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, and other areas in Goseong, Sokcho, Inje, and Yangyang for a 31-day run from Sept. 22 until Oct. 22.
The expo is taking place under the theme: ¡°Seeking the Future of the World and Mankind in the Forest.¡± The fair consists of programs such exhibitions and academic events.
The five exhibition halls comprise of ¡°Green Earth Hall,¡± ¡°Peace & Forest Hall,¡± ¡°Cultural Heritage Hall,¡± ¡°Healing Hall,¡± and ¡°Forestry Industry Hall.¡± They are made with media art videos, VR/AR experiences, and exhibitions.
The Green Earth Hall is showcasing large-sized, realistic videos on its vision of the past, the present and the future of forests, the solution to the climate crisis, in a space covering three sides and the floor, measuring 30 meters in width and 40 meters in length.
The Peace & Forest Hall offers vivid presentations on the successful track record of restoring forests which were devastated during the Japanese¡¯ occupation of Korea and the Korean War, and VR experiences on the stories about the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the woods of peace and coexistence.
Spectators at the Cultural Heritage Hall are given a chance to look at a real tree, standing at 1 meter in diameter, whose growth rings show Korea¡¯s history coupled with forests, as well as a media art product made with breath-taking beauties of Gangwon-do¡¯s famous sights.
The Healing Hall is a space in which spectators can communicate with performers dressed like characters in a fairy tale in a fantastic wood made with paper art, on top of VR experiences, such as woods playground and woods library and a natural plant exhibition.

Spectators at the Forestry Industry Hall are given the chance to look at the overall situation of the forestry-related industry with the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) and Korean institutions as well as 95 participating companies.
The eye-catching Pineal Observatory stands at 45 meters in height, equivalent to the height of a 15-floor apartment building.
The expo is hosted by the Gangwon-do provincial government, Goseong County, Sokcho City, Inje County, YangYang County, and organized by the Gangwon Forestry Exhibition Organizing Committee.
It is sponsored by the Korea Forest Service, National Forestry Cooperative Federation, ICHNP, NongHyup Bank Gangwon Regional Division.
The expo coincides with performances, such as Arts & Forestry Music Concert, Forest Fringe & Healing U Festival, and Mime Performance.
It is also holding hands-on events, such as forestry/lumber culture activities, one-day woodworking classes, and florist classes.
Sub-venue events include DMZ Peace Exploration Tour in Goseong, Goseong Online Themed Stamp Tour; the Forest of Life¡± Expressed Through Lights and Sports Climbing Event in Sokcho; Mat. Baekdudaegan Mountain Range Forest Commentary Contest in Inje and Inje Forest Product Festival; and Woodworking Workshop for Families in the Forest of Healing, National Woodworking Contest in Yangyang.
The expo coincides with academic events covering forestry preservation and ecosystem restoration, forests in an era of carbon neutrality and inter-Korean forest cooperation, cultural legacy of forest, and sustainable forests.
