Explores tasks, and how to improve , to prepare for future healthcare system

HIRA President Kang Jung-gu delivers his opening speech during 2023 International Symposium. 


Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) held the 2023 International Symposium under the theme ¡°Preparing the future healthcare system by strengthening the integrated healthcare system,¡± on Aug. 31. 

The symposium, which took place with about 300 Korean and foreign experts from the health and medical care sectors in attendance, was an event to actively share and discuss diverse views on the future healthcare system, such as improving the quality of medical care. 

Starting with an opening speech delivered by HIRA President Kang Jung-gu, the symposium was followed by commemorative speeches, given by Chairman Shin Dong-geun of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee and 2nd Vice Minister Park Min-soo of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. 

In his keynote speech, Chairman Jeffrey Braithwaite of the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) proposed the acceptance and innovation of the complexity of the future healthcare system while CEO Salma Jaouni of Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC) stressed the importance of primary approach of achieving general medical care coverage. 

During the afternoon session on North American, European and Asian practices, Vice Chairman Joel A. Roos of the Joint Commission International (JCI) emphasized that the quality of medical care and safety will take on more importance for the future healthcare system.

Anthony Staines, Patient Safety Program Director of FHV, presented a practice of improving the quality of medical care through a regional hospital innovation consultation organization in the Vaud are in Switzerland. 

Prof. Imanaka Yuichi of Kyoto University explained a medical system for a resilient society that can reduce medical care gap while Kwon Yong-wook, a member of the Medical Care Review and Assessment Committee at HIRA gave a lecture on the achievements of Korea¡¯s adequacy assessment and the direction of future development. 

President Kang of HIRA which organized the symposium, said, ¡°I hope the event will serve as a good opportunity to suggest significant tasks and solutions for the future healthcare system, and HIRA will contribute to developing international healthcare by continuously hosting international symposiums designed to promote international cooperation and communication in the future.¡±
