KORAIL President Han Moon-hee said, ¡°I¡¯m sorry that last month¡¯s railway strike caused worry to people, and KORAIL will devote itself to helping people use trains in a safe and convenient fashion.¡±
President Han made the remarks at an audit of KORAIL by the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee on Oct. 17.
KORAIL President Han said, ¡°KORAIL will devote itself to realizing top-rated railway safety by improving a variety of facilities and spreading awareness of safety, so both people and staff can be safe.¡±
He emphasized the need for continuous investments in the safety sector, and the implementation of human-oriented safety management by upgrading a smart maintenance management system.
¡°KORAIL will make every effort to improve public values based on sustainability. Like the ITX-Maum, which has made its debut this year, we will gradually increase the operation of low-carbon, eco-friendly trains to contribute to realizing carbon neutrality,¡± President Han said.
President Han also promised to ensure financial soundness. ¡°KORAIL is forecast to see its financial statement for this year improve via omni-directional management improvement efforts, and we will reduce financial risks by exploring railway assets, like the expanding of areas in which demand-oriented trains are operated to improve profit on a continuous basis,¡± Han said.
President Han said, ¡°KORAIL will lead future growth through innovation.¡±
¡°We strive to expand international exchanges and exploration of overseas business based on railway operation and maintenance/repair expertise, and KORAIL will lead future convergence transportation system through the expanded development of the Rail as a Service (RaaS) and self-driving technologies,¡± he said.
President Han said, ¡°KORAIL will build trust management the way people can sense.¡± He stressed customer-oriented policies, such as improving railway stations and trains and adoption of user-friendly digital services, such as undesignated seat self-check-in and carrier delivery services, as well as a sound corporate culture based on communication and trust between labor and management.

KORAIL Releases Weekend Travel Products, Available Until Next Feb.
KORAIL has launched night travelling, sun-rising and leisure/sport tourist products, made available from October until next February.
KORAIL said on Oct. 16 the railway authority, in cooperation with the Korea Tourism Organization, has been operating weekend travel trains, running every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from October.
KORAIL has come up with the new products to encourage domestic tourism and reinvigorate regional tourism industries by connecting railway travel with a weekend travel campaign, suggested by KTO.
KORAIL plans to operate travel products with new themes with special discounted rates until next February.
The travel products, starting Oct. 29, will be operated under the theme ¡°Reasonable Travel.¡±
Travels will be given the chance to appreciate charms of autumn by connecting representative tourist spots and festivals of Gongju, Nonsan, Iksan and Gimje, declared as disaster areas.
KORAIL plans to come up with travel products under the theme of night traveling in November, sun-rising in December, leisure/sport in next January and well-being in next February.
Rates vary according to departure places and composition. One-day travel products start with a minimum rate of 25,000 won and one-night, two-day ones are set at 99,000 won or more.
KORAIL President Han said, ¡°KORAIL will join the government¡¯s campaign by operating weekend travel products that can get tourists special moments of memory through train travels with reasonable prices and instill a vigor to regions.¡±
