K-water has been operating so-called ¡®ITX trains¡¯ in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Soyanggang Dam for three months from September, the corporation said on Sept. 3. 

The Soyanggang Dam was dedicated on Oct. 15, 1973, with the goal of controlling floods and supplying water and electricity. The dam is responsible for 45 percent of the water supplied to the Seoul metropolitan area.

¡°ITX Cheongchun Soyanggangdam 50th Anniversary Trains¡± are decorated in four themes; the history of the dam, roles of the present, future vision and 50th anniversary part zones.

K-water President Yun Seog-dae said, ¡°The Soyanggangdam¡¯s value is ever growing significant as a national infrastructure to cope with the climate danger of today, and it will serve as an opportunity to review the history of the dam.¡±

K-water Embarks on Reconstruction of Destroyed Dam in Ukraine

Korea Water Resources Corp. (K-water) will implement a project to rebuild Kakhovka Dam in Kherson Sate, which was severely damaged by Russia¡¯s invasion. 

K-water President Yun Seog-dae visited Ukraine¡¯s hydroelectric dam operation public entity and agreed to form a task force to restructure water resources facilities, including the dam. 

Prior to the rebuilding of the dam, K-water plans to provide support to water treatment facilities in four or five locations capable to supply drinking water to about 35,000 people. 

K-water President Yun said, ¡°We¡¯ll lead the swift reconstruction of Ukraine through continuous cooperation, and K-water will play as a beachhead to help Korean companies enter Ukraine¡¯s reconstruction market.¡±

K-water on Sept. 25 it struck an MOU on humanitarian water support and future city reconstruction with Kherson State.

K-water visited Kiev, Ukraine, along with working-level officials from the water, energy and city sectors to hit the gas to cooperate in the reconstruction of the country. 

The Korean government announced comprehensive support to Ukraine and a $2.3 billion assistance plan at the G20 Summit on Oct. 10. 

On Sept. 13, the so-called ¡°One Team Korea¡± visited Kiev, designed six projects for reconstruction cooperation, such as dams and cities, and disclosed its determination to spearhead them.

K-water President Yun visited UHE (Ukrhydroenergo), Ukraine¡¯s state-run dam operation institution and agreed to form a working-level task force on the reconstruction of water resources facilities, including Kakhovka Dam, one of the six reconstruction cooperation projects. 

Korea proposed to Ukraine ways of rebuilding the dam, such as an analysis of the situation of the dam using satellite phones, a basic survey and dispatching dam experts. 

Representatives of One Team Korea, which toured Kiev for two days from Sept. 13 visited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who cited K-water¡¯s active participation in the reconstruction of Kakhovka Dam.

The Korean delegation had a series of meetings with several Ukrainian institutions, including the Environment Ministry, Kiev City, and Bucha City. 

It introduced water, energy and urban sector technologies, including digital twins, and looked at detailed ways of cooperating in the reconstruction of Ukraine. The delegation met with prominent Ukrainian lawmakers to speed up the reconstruction of Ukraine. 

Meanwhile, K-water was selected as the winner of a project to establish a master plan on Uman¡¯s smart city in Ukraine, organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corp., K-water said on Aug. 24. 

The project on Uman¡¯s smart city is the first related to Ukraine¡¯s reconstruction awarded by the Korean government. 

The project is one of K-city network projects MOLIT and KIND designated to export Korean smart city technologies abroad in June. 

K-water formed a consortium with Cheil Engineering, Korea Planning Association, Han-A Urban Research Institute, and Samjong KPMG to participate in the bidding. 

The consortium proposed development strategies, such as urban planning and plans to invigorate the tourism industry, connecting a local hub city, based on Uman¡¯s concern and regional characteristics.
