On June 21, Shinhan Financial Group carried out the ¡°Good Winds for the Elderly Living Alone¡± volunteer service activity to help senior citizens living alone spend hot summer days healthy at Shinhan Financial Group Headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul.
Participants included Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Jin Ok-dong, CEOs and executives of group affiliates to mark the start of the 2023 Global One Shinhan Volunteer Festival in Korea and abroad.
Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Jin and more than 50 executives and employees made kits for the elderly in preparation of summer heat waves.
The kits included nutritious foods, such as Samgyetang (chicken ginseng soup) and abalone porridge, as well as various summer household items like portable electric fans, cool blankets, and cool pain relief patches.
Shinhan Financial Group will also donate summer kits worth 200 million won to the General Support Center for the Elderly Living Alone.
The center has received 3.2 billion won worth of summer goods from Shinhan Financial Group over the past 13 years.
Prior to the kit-making event, the Shinhan chairman and employees renewed their commitment to solve the world¡¯s problems through active volunteer activities by changing the name of their volunteer service corps and held an art wall-making event using waste plastic bottle caps to show their strong will.
The Global One Shinhan Volunteer Festival is Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s flagship volunteer program, which has been held for 16 years since 2008.
The event contributes to addressing local communities¡¯ problems through domestic and international social contribution activities focused on coexistence (welfare), empathy (culture) and coexistence (environment).
In Korea, more than 3,000 Shinhan employees and their families will participate in seven programs, including ¡°Do The Green Plogging¡± activities in five regions across the country for two months, ¡°Making Braille Tactile Devices¡± for the visually impaired, ¡°Making DIY Furniture to Support Learning¡± for underprivileged children, and ¡°Painting Murals¡± to protect the environment.
From June to the end of this year, Shinhan Financial Group will conduct various overseas corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities with local NGOs and governments in 10 countries, including China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Mexico, and India where it has overseas subsidiaries.
In China, Shinhan Financial Group will donate goods for the elderly and the disabled and organize outings for people in wheelchairs.
In India, the financial group will conduct country-specific social contribution projects such as delivering learning supplies to children in child welfare facilities and sponsoring daily necessities for vulnerable teenagers.
¡°Shinhan Financial Group will continue to strive to carry out various social contribution activities for the underprivileged in its neighborhoods and community,¡± Chairman Jin said.
Meanwhile, Shinhan Financial Group announced that it held the launching ceremony of the Disabled Youth Dream Team at FKI Tower in Seoul, to pledge its support for young people with disabilities who dream of becoming international leaders on July 18.
The Disabled Youth Dream Team is the only overseas training program for young people with disabilities in Korea where Shinhan Financial Group provides overseas experience opportunities for young people with disabilities.
Since 2005, Shinhan Financial, together with the Korea Disabled People Rehabilitation Association and the Community Chest of Korea has been conducting the Disabled Youth Dream Team Program, providing a total of 10.2 billion won in support to a total of 1,039 young people for 19 years.
The 18th class of the Disabled Youth Dream Team consisted of the Planned Training Team which will receive training with experts on employment, technological development, and policies for people with disabilities under the theme of IT and the Free Training Team which will plan and execute training courses on school and housing accessibility, art, and IT for people with disabilities.
The launching ceremony was held at Shinhan Financial Group Headquarters in Seoul.
Chairman Jin delivered 400 million won sponsorship from Shinhan Financial Group. Presentations were made about training topics for each team during the ceremony.
