Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin held a ceremony to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Asia Society Korea, a Korean branch of Asia Society, in Busan and he toured Busan North Port, along with 30 foreign ambassadors in Korea.
The port will be a major venue for 2030 Expo if Busan wins the right to host it.
Chairman Shin’s tour to a pavilion designed to promote Busan’s candidacy for 2030 Expo and a major venue for the expo was designed to demonstrate Busan’s capabilities to be the host to the ambassadors. Shin said he loves Busan with all his heart.
Lotte Group said Asia Society Korea, a civilian diplomacy organization, was established by Chairman Shin in October 2007.
Chairman Shin has so far served as chairman of Asia Society Korea since its official inauguration in April 2008, making efforts to promote the understanding of Asia and cultural and diplomatic exchanges, based on close relationships with foreign ambassadors in Korea.
Among those on hand at the event, held from June 12 to June 13, were Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon, Secretary-General Yoon Sang-jik of the World EXPO 2030 Busan Bid Committee, Executive Vice Chairman Woo Tae-hee of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Lee Jong-ho, chief of Naval Operations of the Republic of Korea.
The event was supported by Hyosung, GS Mbiz, Unid, Chorokbaem.com and Lutronic — all sponsors of Asia Society Korea.
Asia Society Korea has handled issues and pending matters encompassing politics, economy, security, society and culture along with experts from diverse areas under themes “International Relations and the Future of the Korean Peninsula.”
Lotte Chairman Shin and the ambassadors in Korea toured the Korea Fleet Command on June 13 and participated in a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice and pay homage and offer wreaths to them.
They toured Busan North Port, the Expo candidacy venue. The tour was made at a request of Chairman Shin, who avidly promoted efforts to bring the 2030 Expo to Busan, utilizing his global network.
Busan North Port, synonymous with 147-year development of Busan, is undergoing an eco-friendly redevelopment.
Busan North Port, with three-dimensional transport using inland and off-shore strengths, is evaluated to be an optimal venue for the 2030 Expo.
Lotte Chairman Shin and Cho Yoo-jang, head of the Busan Metropolitan Government's 2030 Expo Bid Promotion Headquarters, toured a pavilion designed to promote Busan’s candidacy for 2030 Expo and the major venue for the expo and explain Busan’s capabilities to host the Expo to the ambassadors in Korea.
Chairman Shin has been busy promoting Busan Expo. On June 6, Chairman Shin participated in the Consumer Good Forum (CGF) Global Summit and promoted Busan Expo bid.
Lotte created “Busan Expo Photo Zone Together with Bellygom,” a teddy bear designed to promote Busan’s expo bid, at its meeting room with CEOs of Pepsico, L’Oreal, Bain & Company and Carrefour.
The step was designed to attract global CEOs’ concern and support for Busan’s expo bid.
In June 2022, Shin participated in the CGF Global Summit in Dublin, Ireland, and conducted an activity to promote Busan’s expo bid.
In August 2022, Shin had a meeting with Vietnam's President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to discuss Lotte’s businesses in Vietnam and asked for Vietnam’s support to Busan’s expo bid.
Chairman Shin also participated in a ground-breaking ceremony to launch “Lotte Eco Smart City Thu Thiem” on Sept. 2, 2022, and asked Phan Van Mai, chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, for his support to Busan’s bid.
