Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) struck an MOU with Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) on inclusive technology cooperation at KHNP¡¯s Radiation Health Institute on May 4.
Under the deal, both institutions agreed to cooperate on diverse digital transformation areas, such as digital transformation (DX) of small modular reactors (SMR), net-zero/smart city, and other AI, IoT and security sectors.
They plan to ramp up cooperation, such as exchanging of technologies and exploring joint research items.
KHNP has been spearheading diverse digital technologies, such as digital twin, AI-based equipment automated prediction diagnosis, intelligent work robots and VR-based power plant search systems with the goal of developing global top-tier digital technologies on the operation of nuclear power plants.
KHNP President Hwang Ju-ho said, ¡°The MOU is a corner stone for the two institutions¡¯ mutual technology development to spearhead the global digital transformation technology market of the nuclear power industry, and we expect Korea to become an unmatched nuclear powerhouse by exploring technologies that can be utilized effectively in connection with overseas nuclear power exports.¡±
ETRI President Bang Seung-chan said, ¡°It is expected to serve as an opportunity to make ETRI¡¯s ICT technologies, such as AI technologies, contribute to securing national energy security and future industries and it is hoped to be a representative success example of convergence among industries.¡±

KHNP Strikes MOU on Carbon Neutrality Partnership with British Embassy in Korea
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) inked an MOU with the British Embassy in Korea on a net zero partnership on carbon neutrality cooperation, such as building the clean hydrogen ecosystem at KHNP headquarters in Geyongju on April 11.
Under the agreement, both institutions agreed to aggressively cooperate on the development of projects to build the clean hydrogen ecosystem of both countries and joint R&D, the operation of a carbon neutrality working group designed to negotiate energy policies and project development, and building networking among companies of both countries by holding of seminars with hydrogen experts and companies.
Under the deal, KHNP plans to arrange a networking opportunity for hydrogen companies of both countries and build the hydrogen ecosystem through the development of technologies and sharing business information.
British Secretary Grant Shapps of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, said both countries aim to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
To this end, renewable energies, such as green hydrogen, will play a greater role. He said he was pleased that KHNP and the British Embassy in Korea signed an MOU on net zero partnership and for both countries to continue to join forces for the future of net zero.
KHNP President Hwang said, ¡°KHNP will rise to a global top-tier company in the building and operating of a hydrogen production plant based on the expertise on the safety operation of nuclear power plants and we strive to spearhead efforts to build the hydrogen ecosystem, such as build clean hydrogen infrastructure in cooperation with both the British government and carbon neutrality companies.¡±
