Hyundai Motor unveiled ¡°Sonata The Edge,¡± an 8G, full facelift, at Seoul Mobility Show 2023 and previewed the future of robotics by demonstrating EV automatic charging and delivery robots.
The fair took place under the theme ¡°Sustainable, Connected Mobility¡± at KINTEX in Goyang, north of Seoul, from March 31 to April 9.
Hyundai Motor President Chang Jae-hoon said, ¡°Our Hyundai Motor has created space and content, connecting mobility of the present and that of the future and realized an opportunity to see and share Hyundai Motor¡¯s direction.¡±
Hyundai Motor opened ¡°Mobility House,¡± a zone in which spectators can experience robotics of the future, including mobility and daily life, beyond the present mobility limiting vehicles, he said.
Spectators are given an opportunity to experience ¡°last mile mobility,¡± such as the EV automation charging robot ACR, PnD (Plug and Drive) module to upgrade convenience of EV charging, and self-driving delivery robots.
Sonata The Edge, premiered for the first time, represents contemporary sentiment with a refined, sporty outside appearance, inspired by Hyundai Motor¡¯s design identity, dubbed ¡°Sensuous Sportiness.¡±
The new car had a positive reception by adopting SDV-functions, such as a full makeover, premium options and an Over-The-Air Software Update.
It has five engine lineups, including Gasoline 2.5 Turbo, Gasoline 1.6 Turbo, Gasoline 2.0 Hybrid, and LPG 2.0. Hyundai Motor also introduced robots for use in future daily life and unveiled a blueprint for robotics.
Yoon Byung-ho, head of the Service Robotics Team at Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, said, ¡°Hyundai Motor¡¯s EV automation charging robot ACR is a service robot that can upgrade EV users¡¯ charging life.¡±
The new Sonata boasts a dynamic, progressive design with low-slung, elegant proportions and more aggressive coupe-like styling along with an array of advanced safety, driver assistance and convenience features.
The new SONATA, which goes on sale in global markets later this year, will be available as a standard internal combustion engine (ICE) model, sporty N Line variant and hybrid electric (HEV) version, with a range of engine options.
The new Sonata¡¯s low-slung exterior exemplifies progressive automotive design and embodies the theme of ¡®Sensuous Sportiness.¡¯
On the front, its horizontal layout integrates Hyundai¡¯s signature Seamless Horizon Lamp, wide-set hidden headlamps, wide grille and air intake for a more dynamic and aggressive appearance.
The lighting, with integrated DRL, positioning and turn signals, creates dramatic illumination that adds a futuristic look.
At the rear, the new H-lights emphasize Sonata¡¯s wide stance and high-tech character.
The swooping spoiler-shaped trunk lid and muffler-shaped rear garnish promise sporty performance.
In keeping with its sporty exterior, the new Sonata¡¯s interior provides a driver-centric layout that conveys a future mobility design sensibility with high-tech details that support modern lifestyles.
Sonata¡¯s new interior ¡®floating¡¯ theme provides a futuristic mood, which is further enhanced by ambient lighting.
Hyundai Motor Provides G80s to Visiting BIE Delegation
Hyundai Motor provided all-electric G80 sedans for the fact-fining team from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) during their stay in Korea.
Hyundai Motor struck an MOU with the Busan Expo bidding committee on March 26 to join efforts in attracting the 2030 World Expo to Busan, especially during the on-site inspection of the BIE delegation from April 2 to 7.
During their stay, Hyundai Motor offered eight G80 sedans and four buses. The all-electric models demonstrated Korea¡¯s strength over its rivals, according to Hyundai Motor, as carbon neutrality is a central part in the country¡¯s vision for the World Expo.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group unveiled a promotional video showing Busan citizens to introduce Busan¡¯s unique qualities in 15 different languages, on March 26.
The automotive group posted a video titled ¡°Busan Citizens Invite You All,¡± which introduces Busan's strong will and capabilities to host the international event — in the languages of the 15 member countries of the Bureau International des Expositions.
