New Chairman Jin Ok-dong, who will lead Shinhan Financial Group for the next three years, emphasized customer-centered value management on his inauguration day.
Jin also expressed his strong will to lead the growth and innovation of the Korean financial industry while fulfilling his responsibilities so that Shinhan Financial Group will be able to become a source of pride for customers.
“As I take office as chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, I would like to share my thoughts on why Shinhan Financial Group exists,” Chairman Jin said at his inauguration ceremony held at Shinhan Financial Group’s headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul on March 17.
“If being with Shinhan can become a source of pride for our customers, it will explain why Shinhan Financial Group exists,” he said.
“We need to expand the value of customer centricity that laid the foundation of our growth into customers’ pride,” Jin continued, calling for three actions to attain this goal-fulfilling social responsibilities, leading the growth and innovation of the financial industry and helping employees realize their dreams and bringing happiness to employees.
“Instead of excessively focusing on competing for financial performance let’s do our best to make our society a better place,” Jin said, adding, “We have already set a goal of being the No. 1 financial group in good influence as our mid- to long-term direction.”
“We have earned the title of becoming the first by constantly making bold attempts, but past glory does not guarantee a bright future,” Jin emphasized, “We must break new ground in the financial industry, not simply achieving stable results in the same way we did in the past.”
Signing MOU with Korea SMEs and Startup Agency
Shinhan Financial Group announced on April 5 that it signed a business agreement with the Korea SMEs and Startup Agency in order to help Korean startups enter and grow in the Japanese market.
The agreement was signed to proactively respond to help increasingly more Korean startups enter Japan following an improvement in bilateral relations and the acceleration of economic cooperation following a recent Korea-Japan summit.
The two organizations will join forces to jointly foster Korean startups in Japan and expand exchanges between Korean and Japanese startups by establishing a public-private partnership system for Korean startups to enter and grow in Japan.
Shinhan Financial Group will expand its collaboration with the Global Business Center (GBC) and the Korea Startup Center (KSC) outside of Japan through Shinhan Futures Lab, the group’s startup acceleration program.
Shinhan Futures Lab Japan was launched in November last year, following Vietnam in 2016 and Indonesia in 2019. It serves as a private bridgehead to help connect Korean and Japanese venture startup ecosystems by supporting Korean startups when they enter Japan.
Ad Campaign to Support Busan’s Bid to Host World Expo
Shinhan Financial Group announced that it launched the “We Hope Together” advertising campaign to join nationwide efforts on April 3 to help Busan punch a ticket to host the Busan World Expo.
Shinhan Financial Group plans to run the campaign by the end of April, using various channels, such as outdoor advertisements and airing videos showing Korea’s aspirations to host the Busan World Expo through transportation facilities including airports and SNS channels.
In particular, Shinhan Financial Group is promoting Korea’s efforts to host the Expo by screening a promotional video at the arrival hall of Incheon International Airport to coincide with the arrival of jury members who visited Korea on April 3.
Shinhan Financial Group is also supporting Busan’s bid to host the Expo by posting promotional videos at transportation facilities used by visitors to Busan such as KTX train stations and Gimpo Airport, broadcasting messages at Shinhan Bank branches nationwide, and put them on social media channels such as YouTube and Instagram.
“Shinhan Financial Group is aiming to become the No. 1 financial group in generating positive effects,” a Shinhan Financial Group official said. “We will actively support Korea hosting international events such as the Busan World Expo.”
