Shinhan Financial Group announced on February 19 that it held the second performance sharing session for Shinhan Square Bridge Jeju, the group’s startup incubation platform located in Jeju City.
Shinhan Square Bridge Jeju is a program that works with the public and private sectors to discover and nurture innovative startups, solving various social issues such as the environment, natural resources, and agriculture, and enhances social value in the Jeju region.
Shinhan Financial Group provided a variety of programs to selected teams in the second round of Shinhan Square Bridge Jeju, including support for commercialization, regular mentoring, connections to public-private networks in Jeju, opportunities to participate in Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) conferences, which are Asia’s largest meeting of its kind, investment, legal, public relations, and branding advice, and consideration of making investment in innovative startups with the Square Bridge Fund.
At the event, a total of five allied teams shared the results of projects they have been working on to create sustainable social value in the fields of the environment, natural resources and agriculture.
In particular, the results of each project were measured by way of the Shinhan ESG Value Index developed for the first time by Shinhan Financial Group among Korean financial companies to measure the social value of ESG activities, and give prizes.
“The second class of Shinhan Square Bridge Jeju has been working to enhance social value in Jeju through organic collaboration between startups and the public and private sectors,” a Shinhan Financial Group official said.
“Shinhan Financial Group will do everything it can do to spread good influence through empathy and mutual growth through systematic startup support programs.”
Meanwhile, Shinhan Square Bridge is a nationwide innovation-powered growth project promoted by Shinhan Financial Group at the group level. The startup support program is based in major cities such as Seoul and Incheon, with the aim of tackling local problems by discovering and fostering startups.
59th Hope Hero Awards
Shinhan Financial Group announced that it held the 59th Hope Hero Awards with Good Neighbors and the Community Chest of Korea at Shinhan Bank’s Western Headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul on Feb. 27.
As part of the Hope Society Project, one of the group’s major social contribution programs, Shinhan Financial Group has been selecting righteous citizens and organizations that helped people in need as “Hope Heroes” since 2018, leading the way in spreading a culture of sharing and good influence.
This time, Kim Kwang-yeon was selected as the 59th Hope Hero. Kim made a significant contribution to putting out a fire by using a fire hydrant installed on the tunnel wall during a fire accident in Sapasan Tunnel on the First Circular Expressway in the Seoul Metropolitan Area on Feb. 26.
“The examples of Hope Heroes who risked their lives for others even in dangerous situations resonate deeply with Shinhan Financial Group and even with our society,” a Shinhan Financial Group official said. “Shinhan Financial Group will do everything it can do to spread good influence through active and sincere social contributions.”
Meanwhile, Shinhan Financial Group plans to give Hope Hero Prizes to those who contributed to the prevention of school violence and healing those who suffered school violence over three months from March to May to spread a culture of non-violence at school in the new semester.
Shinhan Dream Fulfillment Software Contest
The Shinhan Financial Hope Foundation announced on February 28 that it successfully held the 2022 Shinhan Dream Fulfillment Software Contest with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Community Chest of Korea.
To promote the development of creative problem-solving and scientific thinking ability, Shinhan Financial Group held coding classes for students during the summer and winter vacations last year.
In the “2022 Shinhan Dream Doula SW Contest”, 275 elementary school students who completed the coding classed participated in the form of teams and had an opportunity to show their coding knowledge and skills.
Four teams that won the grand prize and six teams that won excellent prizes took home certificates and cash prizes, respectively. All students who participated in the contest received certificates and small souvenirs.
