The Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) is beginning a project in August to build a square-type second section of the Songdo Waterfront, which will connect reservoirs of Songdo International City and waterways.
IFEZ said on March 13 the authority will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Songdo Waterfront Phase 1-2 Project in August and dedicate it by 2026.
The Songdo Waterfront Phase 1-2 Project calls for building a 9.53 km-long waterway connecting a reservoir of the Songdo Section 6 in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon and the Ah-am Reservoir.
The project also calls for creating diverse waterfront space, such as promenades, fountains, sandy beaches, observatories and photo zones.
IFEZ plans to hold a business explanation session to lend an ear to voices from neighborhood residents at Songdo G Tower on March 30.
The authority has already completed the Songdo Waterfront Phase 1-1 Project, connecting a 930-meter-long waterway and waterfront space between the West Sea and Songdo Section 6.
IFEZ will embark on the Songdo Waterfront Phase 2 Project to build a 6.73 km-long waterway between the hinterland of Incheon New Port and downtown Songdo in 2025 and delicate it by 2027.
The Songdo Waterfront Project calls for building a combined 21.17 km-long waterway, measuring 40 meters to 500 meters in width at a cost of 621.5 billion won.
If the whole project is finished up, seawater off Incheon Port will circulate to downtown Songdo along the planned waterway for an interval of 15 days.
IFEZA Commissioner Kim Jin-yong said, ¡°We¡¯ll build a marine ecology city in which humans can coexist with the nature by attracting marinas and water leisure sports facilities, and it will attract tourists, reinvigorate the regional economy and raise its standing as a global city.¡±

IFEZA Strikes MOU with Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region
Commissioner Kim Jin-yong of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZA) signed an MOU with Chuyenxiang, deputy chief of the commercial department of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, at Songdo G Tower in Incheon on March 13.
Under the deal, both sides agreed to promote diverse exchanges and cooperation, such as urban development and investment attraction, for mutual development, maintain mutual liaison channels and establish consultation regimes.
