Securities firms and companies are scrambling up to follow up on the government’s plan to issue and circulate security-token offerings (STOs).
Mirae Asset Securities said on Feb. 8 the company plans to establish a security digital asset business organization and implement projects to commercialize digital assets.
It was in July 2021 that Mirae Asset Securities inaugurated a digital asset task force team prioritizing digital asset manpower.
A Mirae Asset Securities official said Mirae Asset Securities struck an MOU with KOREIT under which an in-house system is being built to offer token securities services in a format of trust beneficiary certificates.
Mirae Asset Securities is stepping on the gas to develop infrastructure for investment contract securities, which will be core futuristic financial products.
“This year will be the first year in which Mirae Asset Securities will implement a project to commercialize digital assets, and we’ll offer new investment opportunities to customers through token securities and account management platforms,” the official added.
Meanwhile, Chairman Choi Hyun-man of Mirae Asset Securities called for the company to strive to become a global top tier investment bank.
In his New Year’s message delivered on Jan. 2, Choi named this year’s corporate goals, including ramping up the alliance with customers, pursuing strategic innovation and raising expertise.
Chairman Choi said, “Mirae Asset Securities had implemented businesses in accordance with unmatched strategies: G.I.D.P. (Global, Investment, Digital, Pension) last year, and even though the business environment continued to be challenging due to inflation and interest rate hikes, we built a long-term growth foundation by expanding the overseas business and continuing to invest in innovation companies.”
Despite last year’s hard market conditions, Mirae Asset Securities logged a net increase of 1.8 trillion won in foreign stocks and 5.1 trillion won in pension assets.
Chairman Choi said, “In 2023, hard business conditions, caused by sagging investment sentiment, shrank by high market interest rates will be persisted, Mirae Asset Securities will have to secure unmatched businesses by building more innovative strategies and continuing to challenge to become a global top tier IB.”
Chairman Choi stressed the alliance with customers, saying, “Mirae Asset Securities exists for customers.”
He called for always prioritizing customers and implementing projects with sincerity based on awareness toward high ethics by remembering trust as the most important principle.

Mirae Asset Capital Buys 2.6 Million Mirae Asset Securities Common Shares
Mirae Asset Capital continued to purchase Mirae Asset Securities’ common shares on the floor from January to boost shareholder values.
Securities industry sources said on Feb. 9 Mirae Asset Capital, the biggest shareholder of Mirae Asset Securities, purchased 2,64,300 common shares of Mirae Asset Securities from Jan. 3 and Feb. 7 on the floor, raising Mirae Asset Capital and its interest parties’ stake to 28.1 percent, a 0.42q percentage point rise from 27.6 percent.
A Mirae Asset Securities official said Mirae Asset Capital’s share purchase is designed to raise shareholders’ values by boosting its share prices, not securing stakes, and the biggest shareholder’s buying a stake aimed to send an affirmative signal to the market.
Meanwhile, Chairman Park Hyeon-ju of Mirae Asset Group exercises the group’s management rights through Mirae Asset Capital, Mirae Asset Global Investments and Mirae Asset Consulting.
Mirae Asset Capital has the rights to manage Mirae Asset Securities, which controls Mirae Asset Life and Mirae Asset Venture Investments.
