In his New Year¡¯s message, President Lee Seung-woo of Korea Southern Power Co. (KOSPO) said, ¡°In the New Year, we still face a difficult internal and external management environment, as we did last year. In particular, this is a year in which major policies related to the Korean power industry are to be announced.¡±
President Lee spoke of the Chinese saying ¡°Gyotosamgul,¡± saying, ¡°A wise rabbit digs three dens to hide. And I will greet the Year of the Rabbit, full of wisdom.¡±
¡°KOSPO will build a strong energy system through climate change response, strengthening energy security and creation of new energy industries by complying new mid- and long-term management strategies, declared by our company last November, to the new government¡¯s energy policies and continue to manage it,¡± he said.
To this end, President Lee set four tasks: carrying out management strategies based on efficiency; safety, integrity and innovation; ramping up communication and cooperation with all stakeholders; and endless pondering on how to ensure a sustainable business.
President Lee urged his executives and staff members to break down barriers among departments to brace for uncertainties of the future, gather wisdom and explore the path of survival at any situation.
KOSPO held an online ceremony to kick off the 2023 business year at KOSPO headquarters in Busan on Jan. 2.
The ceremony coincided with an event in which President Lee made a written vow to realize the integrity of the public sector and make KOSPO a public entity trusted by the people.
KOSPO President Lee, his executives and staff members, paid homage to deceased patriots at the Cheongryangsa Temple in Dongnae-gu, Busan, on the same day.

KOSPO Pledges to Make Power Company Disaster-Free
Executives and staffers of Southern Power Co. (KOSPO) made a vow and determination to incorporate into all work sites the ¡°three no¡¯s¡± this year - industrial disaster-, accident- and injury-free by greeting the Year of Rabbit at the Igidae Coastal Walk in Busan on Jan. 3.
KOSPO labor and management participated in an event to pledge to make worksites accident-free with about 100 KOSPO executives and staffers, including KOSPO headquarters managers in attendance.
KOSPO executives and staffers, as well as cooperative company officials, vowed to make all work sites safe and healthy under the catchphrase ¡°Attaching Top Priority on Safety, Communicating and Executing.¡±
KOSPO had has achieved a track record of avoiding any major industrial disasters for the past five years.
The power company plans to implement diverse programs to prevent industrial disasters by operating a safety innovation school, in cooperation with its cooperative companies, actualizing integrated safety management regimes and ramping up reporting using mobile channels.
KOSPO President Lee Seung-woo said, ¡°The labor-management joint event to pledge safety was a time in which KOSPO gets back to the basics and does not forget where it started.¡±
Lee called for KOSPO executives and staffers to join forces to take safety seriously to fulfill the grave responsibility of making all sites accident-free.
