Artist Jang Woo-soon¡¯s works portray circles and the traditional Korean ¡®five colors¡¯, and represent the modern culmination of traditional Korean straw-mat culture.
Jang uses mulberry dark paper to explore traditional Korean subjects.
She displayed her 20 pieces at the 16th solo invitational exhibition, hosted by the Yeongwol Art Association, which took place from June 11 to June 17.
In her painting note, Jang said, ¡°The theme of this exhibition is ¡°A Big Sun I Once Saw in a Dream and Small Birds Singing in the Sunshine.¡±

Circles seen in her works symbolize the heart of the universe and mankind. The traditional Korean five colors become the motivation of the pieces, based on her memories of straw mat culture in her childhood, she said.
Artist Jang was also one of the painters who displayed their works at 2022 Seoul Art, which took place at Exhibition A Hall of COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, from Dec. 21 to Dec. 25.
J Cube Museum Holds Special Collection Exhibition
J Cube Museum, located in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do, is holding a special exhibition for 24 artists from last Nov. 5 until Feb. 5, 2023.
Among the art works on display are print works produced by renowned painter Park Soo-keun and four others, photos taken by two, including Park Chang-geun and pieces by 16 Western-style painters.

They include Kim Sang-duck, Kim Jung-yeol, Yamaguchi Seichi, So Young-ran, Ham-sup, Yoshimodo, Choi Chung-shik, Jang Woo-soon, Han Jin-sup, Kim Han-kuk, Lee Keun-woo, Ji Sang-seop, Shin Geum-sook, and Park Chan-gap.
Artist Jang Woo-soon, director of J Cube Museum, said her family members returned to Korea and participated in the exhibition to promote the cultural development of the Yeongwol area.
Her son is photographer Park Chang-dae, working in New York , and his wife is Chung Ran-joo, a Western-style painter.
Artist Jang Woo-soon won prizes, such as the ¡°Special Artist of the Year Award,¡± presented by the screening committee of the Korean Art Critics¡¯ Association at the 42th Best Artists Awards ceremony.
