Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, marking the 50th anniversary, has made a fresh start with its new name, HD Hyundai.
The business group designated the new name and held a ceremony to declare its new vision in celebration of the 50th anniversary at the Global R&D Center in Pangyo, Gyeonggi-do, on Dec. 26.
At the event, HD Hyundai declared the business group’s name change, revealed the mission to “explore the future of mankind through innovation leading the times and endless challenging” and suggested three core business visions to realize it.
The shipbuilding, marine, energy, and industry machinery businesses have set the new vision of “realizing the infinite potential of the sea,” “realizing a sustainable future energy ecosystem,” and “providing industrial solutions surpassing spaced and time limitations,” respectively, ambitions to build the ecosystem of future industries.
At his commemorative speech at the anniversary event, HD Hyundai Chairman Kwon Oh-gap said, “Today is the day when our group makes a fresh start with a new name.”

“The past 50 years were a history of honor, adorned with a chapter of the economic development of Korea, and the next 50 years will be a history of innovation and creation where the technology, environment digital converge,” he said.
HD Hyundai President Chung Ki-sun, who came forward to make a presentation, took time with his executives and staff members to explain the details of the new vision.
As he wrapped up his presentation, President Chung said leaders would proactively make efforts to become a company they really want to work and a company in which they can realize their dreams at their heart’ content. He promised them that he would create a smarter working environment and corporate culture.
At the same time, HD Hyundai unveiled its new corporate identity. The new symbol, named “Forward Mark,” starts from the shape of the conventional pyramid and finishes with the form of an arrow.
The dynamic shape of Forward Mark symbolizes HD Hyundai’s willingness toward a forward movement through change. The green means a sustainable future.
About 1,000 HD Hyundai executives and staffers on hand at the occasion wrapped up the anniversary event by flying paper airplanes in which they wrote on their messages of encouragement.
Executives and staffers of the group’s subsidiaries in Ulsan, Yeongam and Daesan, and other parts of the nation, participated in a live broadcast over YouTube.
Meanwhile, the final runners of the 341-km-long “Walkathon Challenge with One Mind” arrived at the GRC, the destination of the event, which started on Nov. 16, in celebration of the group’s 50th anniversary.
HD Hyundai executives, including Chairman Kwon, greeted the final runners, including President Chung, at the entrance of the GRC and congratulated for their finishing the course.
