CJ Group Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik delivered his New Year’s message in which he stressed to successfully implement mid-term strategies, targeting 2025 and growing into a global lifestyle company.
In the message delivered on Jan. 2, Chairman Sohn said, “The rapidly changing, internal and external business environment is not only a crisis, but also an opportunity for us to make a great leap forward, and companies who went nimble to cope with the times of this rapidly changing business environment could widen a tremendous gap with normal companies,” he said.
“Whether we make a quantum jump to become a global major player or fall into an extinction with complacency in the domestic market will depend on how we will draw up audacious future strategies and implement them by securing unmatched capabilities and top manpower this year,” Chairman Sohn said.
In particular, he said, “Even though CJ Group posted the best-ever business performance for the second straight year, the group’s stalled capitalization means the market’s lack of confidence over its competitiveness, and this year, the first year of implementing mid-term strategies targeting 2025, CJ should achieve future innovation growth based on its core value ‘OnlyOne,’”
CJ Cheiljedang has released about 300 kinds of gift sets tailored to meet diverse trends on the occasion of the Lunar New Year holiday.
Specifically, the group’s subsidiaries plan to make dramatic and swift investments and conduct M&As to expand new business areas and markets based on the four growth engines of Culture, Platform, Wellness, and Sustainability (CPWS).
Chairman Sohn emphasized the significance of securing financial safety.
“Amid fears of a global economic recession and also financial crunch, massive investments need to be executed in a proper time by securing a maximum of liquidity focusing on cash,” he said.
Chairman Sohn promised now that manpower enables innovative growth, CJ will guarantee diverse opportunities and fair competition and ramp up dramatic compensations.
CJ will expand diverse growth opportunities, such as job posting, in-house ventures, in-house independent companies and spin-offs so that top gifted manpower can challenge businesses and positions they could grow fast and want, he said.
Chairman Sohn also stressed the need for securing and ramping up structural competitiveness to the extent its rival companies could not take on by reestablishing unmatched capabilities in core businesses and building them as early as soon.
To this end, he said, Chairman Sohn called for upgrading performance indices, acceleration of digital transformation and massive R&D investments.
Lastly, he said, “In order to make a quantum jump as a global lifestyle company, CJ should take it heart humbly to ruminate the ‘OnlyOne spirit,’ correspond to future trends and technologies and be reborn into a company in which top gifted manpower want to move over, work and grow together.”
