Incheon Port Authority (IPA) has finalized major business plans for the year 2023 and vowed to make this year a year of making another leap forward by seeing Incheon port set new records for cargo volumes and shipping routes. 

Despite difficult business conditions, such as the global economic downturn and global supply chain uncertainties, Incheon Port achieved 3 million TEU in terms of container cargo volume last year for the second straight year by attracting eight new container shipping routes and operating 69 regular container routes, the best-ever figure. 

IPA had been credited with ensuring internal stability by sharing the pains with the port logistics business by lowering facility fees in the wake of the protracted COVID-19 pandemic, pursuing work innovation through rental management system upgrades, obtaining the ¡°AA¡± grade of the compliance program (CP) and winning the prime minister¡¯s prize in recognition of shared growth. 

IPA plans to concentrate companywide capabilities to attract new shipping cargo liners and improve the logistics environment, build smart port infrastructure, make each port tailored to meet needs, improve profitability, respond the resumption of international passenger arrivals and ramp up safety capabilities. 

First of all, IPA aims to achieve 3.45 million TEU in terms of container cargo volumes, attract more than 10 new regular container routes, create cargo volumes tailored to meet respective ports and ramp up logistics infrastructure through the construction of value-added initiatives.

The authority plans to push ahead with the development of Incheon New Port¡¯s first and second phase container wharves, redevelopment of Incheon Inner Port¡¯s first and eighth wharves, building of a smart auto valley and the construction of a joint logistics center without interruption. At the same time, it will concentrate on logistics innovation R&D to secure technologies leading related organizations. 

IPA plans to make thorough preparations for cruise liners¡¯ entry, scheduled to be resumed in March and the normalization of the operation of the international passenger terminal following the resumption of Korea-China car ferry routes. 

IPA will also devote itself to attracting investments in the ¡°Gold Harbor Project¡± in cooperation with related organizations, implementing ESG management for sustainable development, realizing safety and security, trusted by people and carrying out autonomy and responsibility management through management innovation.

IPA President Choi Joon-wook said, ¡°We¡¯ll implement major tasks without interruption, purse joint development through communication with port logistics industry and regional society and making Inchon port one with a competitive edge to spearhead public entity innovation, autonomy and responsibility management through major projects connected with national agenda. ¡° 


Jeong Geun-young Takes Office as IPA¡¯s Senior Exe. VP in Charge of Construction

Incheon Port Authority (IPA) appointed Jeong Geun-young, former head of Hyundai E&C¡¯s Incheon branch, to senior executive vice president in charge of construction, the authority said on Jan. 2. 

Newly inaugurated Senior Executive Vice President Chung, born in Incheon, graduated from Dongincheon High School and Dongkuk University Public Administration Department. 

Chung has been evaluated to be armed with rich expertise and field experiences in the construction sector as he served as chief of Hyundai E&C¡¯s Incheon branch during his time with the contractor from 1982 and 2014, and head of the builder of P Arena Park. 

With IPA¡¯s appointment of Senior Executive Vice President Chung, the authority is expected to smooth out the implementation of the port¡¯s major infrastructure construction projects and first and eighth wharf redevelopment projects, respectively.
