KEPCO E&C teamed up with consortium members, Kumho E&C and LS ELECTRIC to sign a contract on a project to build ¡°Wangshin Fuel Cell Power Plant,¡± awarded by Gyeongju Clean Energy on Nov. 18.

The project calls for constructing a 110MW fuel cell power plant with the nation¡¯s biggest power generation capacity in an industrial complex in Wangshin-ri, Gangdong-myeon, Gyeongju City.

The planned fuel cell plant will be dedicated about 39 months after the project is launched. KEPCO E&C will participate in a joint EPC project with consortium members.

Wangshin Fuel Cell Power Plant is a facility capable of producing electricity through chemical reactions by using natural gas as a fuel. It is an eco-friendly power plant emitting less greenhouse gases compared to coal-fired ones.

The fuel cell plant will serve as a dispersed power grid designed to supply electricity to industrial complexes and neighborhood electricity consumers.

KEPCO E&C is leading renewal energy projects by launching the EPC project of the Jeju Hallim Off-shore Wind Power Farm, the nation¡¯s largest off-shore wind power one early this year.

The finance agreement for the Jeju Hallim Offshore Wind Power Generation Project was signed On Feb. 24.

KEPCO E&C has played the lead role in this development project, in which KEPCO, Korea Midland Power, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction have jointly contributed.

This agreement was signed by Jeju Hallim Offshore Wind Power Generation, Co. which is an SPC co-owned between KEPCO (29%), Korea Midland Power (23%), KEPCO E&C (5%), Hyundai Engineering & Construction (10%), Baram (1%) and a consortium of lenders.

On February 25, a commemoration ceremony was held for the signing of the agreement on the largest offshore wind power generation project in the country to date.

This project site is located in the sea off the coast of Suwon-ri, Hallim-eup, Jeju City, where 18 units of 5.56 MW wind power generators made by Doosan Heavy Industries will be installed. The SPC was established in 2017.

The development plan and power generation permit were approved and acquired in 2020. The EPC contract was co-signed by both us and Hyundai Engineering & Construction consortium. The work is set to start this year and be completed by October 2024.

KEPCO E&C said the company is expected to solidify its standing as a top energy leader contributing to realizing carbon neutrality and leading the construction of an eco-friendly energy ecosystem by building the fuel cell power plant with the nation¡¯s biggest capacity.

KEPCO President Kim Wins PM Man Award of the Year

KEPCO President Kim Sung-arm took home the 2022 PM Man Award of the Year at the 32nd Project Management Symposium, organized by Korea Project Management Association at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Oct. 28.

Korea Project Management Association was established in 1991 with the goal of developing and spreading expertise about project management. The association is a non-profit entity registered by the Ministry of Science and IT (MSIT).

The association has held project management symposiums under diverse themes related to project management every year and awarded outstanding projects recognized for the development of project management, related experts and managers.

In particular, the PM Man Award of the Year has been inaugurated this year to aggressively cope with the post-COVID pandemic.

KEPCO E&C President Kim has been credited with building the power industry ecosystem, such as the expanding and operating of power grids designed to carry out national policies related to energy transition, localization and the world¡¯s first commercialization of superconductivity power transition technologies and self-sufficiency of high-voltage direct circuit (HVDC) technology, a future growth industry and his contribution to the development of the power industry, such as the execution of ¡°Power Grid Reboot¡± designed to shift a paradigm focusing on human beings and the environment.

He has been honored with the PM Man Award of the Year in recognition of his contribution to promoting project management by securing social concern over project management and foundation, such as not only managing cost, construction period and quality, major elements of executing projects, but also establishing a communications system through coordination among project participants.
