Woori Financial Group announced on Dec. 11 that it held a workshop to review business performances in 2022 and map out a business plan for 2023 at the conference room of the group headquarters on Dec. 9.
On this day, Chairman Sohn Tae-seung diagnosed that Woori Financial Group will continue to have tough business conditions such as a global economic recession for a while and asked the CEOs of 14 affiliates including Woori Bank to put risk management over anything else in their management in a virtual emergency mode until the first half of 2023.
Woori Financial Group will implement soundness-oriented management with a focus on risk management by preparing for their worst crisis scenarios with its subsidiaries including Woori Bank, Woori Card, Woori Financial Capital and Woori Investment Bank.
However, by closely observing market situations, Woori Financial Group decided to come up with a plan to firmly seize opportunities unique to Woori Financial Group such as expanding its securities and insurance portfolios even in times of crisis.
¡°As we have achieved good results this year in the first year of Woori Financial Group¡¯s complete privatization, it is fundamental to boost our affiliates¡¯ competitiveness in 2023 as well,¡± Chairman Sohn said in a general review of the workshop.
¡°Let¡¯s make 2023 a year to prepare for groundbreaking future growth such as taking the lead in the digital market and laying the foundation for expansion into non-financial business areas.¡±
¡°Please actively participate in a 23-trillion-won win-win growth project for the vulnerable, such as a reduction of loan principals for those with poor credit records who have make sincere repayment, preferential interest rates and fee exemptions for vulnerable borrowers, and financial support for young people and small business owners,¡± Chairman Sohn added.
¡°As a difficult time is facing us, Woori Financial Group should take the lead in stabilizing the market and all Woori Financial Group employees should do their best to support the marginalized,¡± he said in a special request.
In addition, Chairman Sohn announced a plan to expand support for the self-reliance of the vulnerable, low-income multicultural families and future generations through the Woori Financial Future Foundation which he established this year, and the Woori Multicultural Scholarship Foundation which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.
The Meek Sisters, the founders of the Kids Against Plastic Foundation, make a presentation at the ESG International Conference co-hosted by Woori Financial Group and the Institute for Global Economics in November.
Meanwhile, Woori Financial Group announced on Dec. 9 that it will support the ¡°Kids Against Plastic¡± Foundation, an environmental protection organization founded by British teenage environmental activists Amy Meek (18 years old) and Ella Meek (16 years old) who are sisters to prevent plastic pollution around the world.
The Kids Against Plastic Foundation was established in 2016 by the Meek Sisters to inform children of the seriousness of plastic pollution. It is spearheading the Plastic Clever Campaign with 636 school students around the world to address plastic problems.
This donation was prepared by adding the Meek Sisters¡¯ lecture fees and Woori Financial Group¡¯s matching grant. Matching grants is a method in which companies donate money by adding a certain amount to individuals¡¯ donations.
Previously, the Meek Sisters attended the ESG International Conference co-hosted by Woori Financial Group and the World Economic Research Institute in November and made a presentation on the MZ generation¡¯s participation and suggestions for a better world.
They expressed their intention to donate donated all of their lecture fees to this foundation to prevent plastic pollution.
In addition, the Meek Sisters visited Eoul Elementary School in Seoul involved in resources circulation activities with the Woori Financial Group and gave a lecture on environmental preservation to students.
¡°Achieving a circular economy is one of Woori Financial Group¡¯s key environmental management keywords in 2022,¡± Chairman Sohn said. ¡°We will continue to cooperate and communicate with the international community to become a global leader in resources circulation and circular economies.¡±
Meanwhile, in April, Woori Financial Group launched the ¡°Act for Nature with Woori¡± Campaign, in which 35 elementary school students and all executives and staff members participated in collecting and up-cycling plastics from household items difficult to recycle.
