Samsung SDS, prioritizing the logistics outsourcing business, saw its overseas business portion surge to a record 71 percent. The company saw sales in North America achieve a steep jump, equivalent to those in Korea.
A report on Samsung SDS¡¯s Q3 business performance, released on Nov. 22, showed that the company¡¯s overseas sales were tallied at 9,274.7 billion won for the first nine months of this year.
The figure represents a 71.4 percent portion of 12,984.7 billion won the company posted for the January-September period.
The latest overseas sales portion represents a 7 percentage point rise compared to the end of last year and a 7.9 percentage point increase over the same period of last year.
The 71.4 percent portion in the company¡¯s overseas sales was the best since 2013, when regional sales were calculated for the first time.
Samsung SDS has made an equity investment into Vizion, a U.S. startup, through Samsung Venture Investment Corp. (SVIC) to ramp up its global logistics competitiveness.
In particular, Samsung SDS¡¯s business performance in the North American market was outstanding.
The company posted 3,373.6 billion won in sales in the North American market for the first three quarters of the year, accounting for 26 percent of the company¡¯s sales during the period.
The figure represents a 4.8 percentage point rise over the same period of last year, equivalent to 3,713 billion won in sales in Korea.
Samsung SDS saw sales surge event over many parts of the world — a 10 percent increase in China, a 15 percent surge in Europe and a 23 percent jump in Asia and Africa.
On the other hand, Samsung SDS saw sales in Korea continue to decline. The portion of sales in Korea, which accounted for between 50 percent and 60 percent in the mid-2010s, dropped to 39 percent in 2020 and 35 percent in 2021.
A business source said, ¡°Samsung SDS¡¯ steep jump in the overseas sales was attributable to high logistics rates and high exchange rates.¡±
Samsung SDS, seeing its overseas sales surging in the recent few years, makes a differentiated difference in the system integration business sector, the source said.
The bulk of Samsung SDS¡¯ overseas sales were from the logistics business. The company saw the logistics business chalk up 2,711 billion won in sales in Q3, a 35.4 percent year-on-year jump over the same period of last year.
A Samsung SDS official said, ¡°The logistics business using platforms is getting under way, and the North American market saw shipping volumes surge on top of rising inland transportation volumes.¡±
