Korea Food Show 2022, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) and organized by Korea Agro-fisheries & Food Trade Corp. (aT), took place at the aT Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, from Nov. 16 and Nov. 18.

Korea Food Show 2022 was the 14th rendition. The fair has been held every year since 2008 to share the latest trends of the Korean and foreign food industries and explore overseas markets.

The latest fair installed the food tech exhibition hall under the theme ¡°The Present and the Future of Food Tech¡± and coincided with major events, such as Korean companies¡¯ one-on-one negotiations with foreign buyers.

Among about 30 people on hand at an opening ceremony of Korea Food Show 2022 were MAFRA Minister Chung Hwang-keun, aT President Kim Chun-jin and award winners.

In his opening speech, aT President Kim said, ¡°Food tech, a convergence of IT, bio tech and culture tech, has been highlighted as a key solution of the pending tasks of the agro-food sector, such as the strengthening of food security, transition to low-carbon dietary life and digitalization & smartification.¡±

Korea Food Show 2022 showcased new and promising food tech industry technologies at all stages of production, procession, distribution and consumption of the Korean agro-food industry, he added.

In his congratulatory speech, MAFRA Minister Chung said, ¡°The Korean food industry whose value amounts to 570 trillion won has grown into a national core industry with an average annual growth rate of 4.8 percent in the past five years, and K-food has emerged as a major cultural industry to publicize Korea to the world along with K-pop and K-drama.¡±

¡°Consumption trend changes in the post-pandemic, such as the development of advanced science technology, a focus on health and environment, and spreading of non-face-to-face contact have brought about great changes of the food industry and tech industry is at the center of the changes,¡± Minister Chung said.

Minister Chung said, ¡°The food tech is a new growth engine of the Korean economy, and food tech, exporting vegetable alternative foods and other new foods and services abroad, has been creating new growth opportunities by raising the competitiveness of the Korean food industry through production process efficiency. The government will offer financial support at each growth stage and ramp up R&D of core technologies so that the food tech industry can be armed with global competitiveness while working out steps to develop the food tech industry, such as nurturing of convergence manpower and regulatory reform to prop industrial growth.¡±
