President Akihiro Nikkaku of Toray Industries made his 1st official visit to Korea in three years to participate in Toray Advanced Materials’ management strategy meeting.
The Toray Industries president resumed his official business overseas trip, which had been interrupted due to the COVID pandemic.
Toray Advanced Materials Korea is a subsidiary of Toray Industries.
Business sources said on Nov. 1 that Toray Industries President Nikkaku was known to have made a one-day, two-night visit to Korea in the previous week and participated in Toray Advanced Materials Korea’s management strategy meeting at Toray Advanced Materials Korea R&D Center in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
He had made a round of visits to overseas operations to attend management strategies meetings every year until 2019 prior to the COVID pandemic, but in recent years, tele-conferences have been used instead.
Business sources said attention was paid on whether Toray Industries President Nikkaku’s long-awaited visit here might be coupled with expanding business opportunities for Korean companies.
Toray Industries made active business exchanges with Korean companies, as Toray had agreed to invest more than 1 trillion won to establish a separation membrane joint-venture in Hungary in cooperation with LG Chemical.
Toray Industries has topped the global separation membrane sector along with Asahi Kasei Corporation.
Chmn. Lee of Korea Toray Science Foundation Gives Lecture on Toray's Innovative DNA
Chairman Lee Young-kwan gave a special lecture under the theme of “Korea Toray Group’s Growth and Management Leadership” at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies on Nov. 10.
This lecture was held for students studying Japanese language and culture.
Chairman Lee emphasized that bold R&D investment and transparent and communicative culture are the driving forces behind TAK's success.
Finally, Chairman Lee stressed that it is important to establish a win-win relationship through industrial cooperation for economic development between Korea and Japan.
Since then, students have asked questions and many responses were made, such as sharing various opinions on the contents of the lecture.
5th Annual Awards Ceremony of Korea Toray Science Foundation
Korea Toray Science Foundation held the 5th Korea Toray Science and Technology Award and Research Fund Support Awards at the FKI Conference Center in Yeouido on Oct. 25.
About 160 people attended the ceremony, including the winners and their families, foundation officials, academic and industrial figures, and college students.
Professor Kim Dong-ho at Yonsei University and Professor Baek Jong-beom at UNIST were awarded for the Science and Technology Award and received 100 million won in prize and a plaque, respectively.
The annual fund 50 million will be given to Jeong Won-jin, a chemistry professor at GIST, Cho Seung-hwan, a chemistry professor at POSTECH, Park Moon-jung, a chemistry professor at POSTECH, and Yoo Seung-ho, a chemical and biotechnology professor at Korea University, for three years.
Following the award ceremony, a special lecture by Morinobu Endo, a honorary professor at Shinshu University in Japan, was held under the theme of ‘Material innovation through creative cooperation between Korea and Japan.’
Lee Young-kwan, the chairman of the foundation, stressed the importance of science and technology for sustainable development of mankind and said, “We will continue to make efforts for the development of science and technology.”
Meanwhile, Korea Toray Science Promotion Foundation receives applications for research projects for Science and Technology awards and examines based on the excellence of life achievements and the creativity of tasks.
Scientific Technique Awards were given to 10 people until this year and has been supporting 20 teams for their research funds.
