Leads great transition in agriculture, metaverse, energy, 4th Industrial Revolution through test-bed strategies to solve national issues

Gyeongsangbuk-do Gov. Lee Cheol-woo announces a master plan on making Gyeongbuk the capital of metaverse at the provincial government on Oct. 6. 


Gyeongsangbuk-do Gov. Lee Cheol-woo, setting the catchphrase of the 8th publicly elected local government ¡°A New Korea, to be Leveraged by Gyeongbuk,¡± has been pursuing great transition in all areas, such as agriculture, metaverse, culture/tourism, 4th Industrial Revolution, energy economy and welfare sectors. 

First of all, the provincial government is hitting the gas in great transition of the agricultural sector.

Gyeongsangbuk-do is implementing a project related to great transition of the agriculture sector to create new models of national agricultural policies, based on the conception that the so-called ¡°provincial era for decentralization¡± cannot be realized without a great transition in farming districts and the agricultural industry 

The provincial government is shifting an elderly-oriented, small-sized farming into an advanced farming industry and it plans to pour 50 billion win in a project to build digital innovation farming towns in which youth are engaged in farming companies in agricultural villages. 

Gov. Lee visited the Netherlands in September to look into an advanced farming system there. Lee stressed the need for making its cue from the European country¡¯s model, saying, ¡°Danish farmer earn $80,000 in annual incomes, higher than $55,000 for people¡¯s average incomes.¡± 

President Yoon Suk-yeol visited the Smart Farm Innovation Valley in Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and met with Gov. Lee. Reports said President Yoon and Gov. Lee shared consensus on a great transition in the agricultural industry. 

Gyeongsangbuk-do is spearheading efforts to transit to the digital economy by declaring Gyeongbuk as the ¡°Capital of the Metaverse Industry.¡±

The provincial government recently announced a blueprint to focus on building a hallyu (Korean Wave) metaverse center and implement a global metaverse innovation special zone to purse a Gyeongbuk-type metaverse combining humanities and digital. 

The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Research Institute predicted that the plan would have an effect of inducing production worth 688.9 billion won and creating more than 5,000 jobs. 

The provincial government has decided to build the first metaverse duty-free outlet in cooperation with customs authorities and duty-free outlets, and it is expanding cultural linkages abroad through metaverse. 




Gyeongsangbuk-do Gov. Lee Cheol-woo visits the Advanced Production Center of Growers United Tomato in Maasdijk, the Netherlands, on Sept. 20 to look into an advanced farming system there. 


Gyeongsangbuk-do is scurrying for making a great transition in the culture and tourism sectors. The provincial government is trying to restore Silla¡¯s capital and core relics and build a virtual tour system through the implementation of a digital project related to Silla¡¯s capital.
 
The project is designed to make it content in which people around the world could enjoy. 

Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to build a marine ecology tourism center that could attract more than 10 million tourists annually by implementing projects to construct a national marine park in the Homi Peninsula and the Yeongil Bay Grand Bridge. 

The provincial government is making steadfast efforts to expand restriction-free special zones to explore new economic areas through challenging beyond regulations in a great transition related to the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Entering the 8th public elected local government era, Gyeongsangbuk-do has been designed as a special zone for regulation-free wireless charging for EVs by the government. 

Gyeongbuk has made a feat of becoming the first province to be designed as a special zone for the fourth consecutive year and as an excellent special zone for three years in row and having the four special zones, the most number across the nation.

The province had a track record of attracting 1.8 trillion won in investments from the private sector. 

The provincial government is devoting itself to building the Gumi Semiconductor Special Zone, a research-oriented medical college in Pohang and the global bio campus in Andong. 

Gyeongsangbuk-do is pursuing a great transition in the energy sector. The provincial government plans to transform the East Sea area into a clean energy cluster combining nuclear power and hydrogen economy in accordance with the current government ¡®s revoking the previous government¡¯s policy of weaning the nation off nuclear power. 

The provincial government submitted an application to designate a national industrial complex to build a small modular reactor (SMR) special industrial complex and a hydrogen production verification center using nuclear power. 

It plans to make it a global energy cluster by adding eco-friendly policies such as a differential electricity rate system and an energy-based welfare system.

Gyeongsangbuk-do is implementing a great transition in the welfare model sector. In his inaugural speech, Gov. Lee said, ¡°Korea has become an economic power, but now is the time when the nation is required to adopt welfare models to not only cope with economic poverty issues and care for people in psychological vulnerable brackets. 

The provincial government plans to become the nation¡¯s first province to take ¡°loneliness steps to cover those in the psychological vulnerable brackets in keeping with these philosophies. 

The provincial government plans to introduce a happiness planner system tailored to meet welfare services in the vulnerable brackets after setting a ¡°me-oriented welfare vision.¡± 


Gov. Lee Elected as Chairman of Governors¡¯ Association of Korea 

Gov. Lee, 100 days in office after being reelected, has benefited from the impact of a government change by managing to implement long-standing projects and addressing pending issues. 

Gov. Lee, who has been with the same wavelength with President Yoon Suk-yeol, has obtained momentum to carry out the province¡¯s major projects. He has been elected as chairman of the Governors¡¯ Association of Korea. 

One of the province¡¯s major projects is one to construct a bridge to cross Yeongil Bay. Gov. Lee has insisted on implementing the project to President Yoon.

Lee proposed to Yoon prior to the presidential election. President-elect Yoon toured a construction site of the project last April 11 and mentioned the need to carry out it. The project has been included in the government budget for next year.

The provincial government has been speeding up a project to work on unconnected parts of the Inland High-speed Railway Line: Moongyeong-Sangju-Gimcheon sections. 

The project has become a list of preliminary feasibility study projects in accordance with a request by the provincial government in 2019.

Gyeongsangbuk-do has been gaining the momentum to realize a clean cluster vision in the East Sea area of the province focusing on nuclear power and hydrogen, as the government has virtually revoked a policy of weaning the nation off nuclear power. 

The government plans to resume the construction of Shin Hanul Nuclear Power Units 3 & 4.
