Attracts about 240 exhibitors from 16 countries and about 30,000 spectators

28(Wed), Sep, 2022

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Second Vice Minister Park Il-joon of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, POSCO Chairman Choi Jeong-woo, Hyundai Motor President Jang Jae-hoon, and Chung Man-ki, chairman of the H2 MEET Organization Committee, look at the exhibits at a ceremony to open the H2 Mobility Energy Environment Technology 2022 (H2 MEET 2022) at KINTEX in Goyang, north of Seoul, on Aug. 31.

Korean large-sized companies, including Hyundai Motor Group, POSCO, Hyosung and Doosan, showcased their latest hydrogen commercial vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell technologies at H2 Meet 2022.

The H2 Mobility Energy Environment Technology 2022 (H2 MEET 2022) took place at KINTEX in Goyang, north of Seoul, from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3.

About 240 exhibitors from 16 countries participated in the H2 MEET 2020 and displayed their latest hydrogen mobility and hydrogen production, storage and transportation products and technologies.

Hyundai Motor released hydrogen commercial vehicle lineups based on Hyundai Xcient, a hydrogen fuel cell-powered truck, including a hydrogen electric police bus, a hydrogen electric garbage compactor truck and a water spray truck.

The hydrogen-powered electric police bus is outfitted with a 180kW fuel cell stack.

It can run at a maximum distance of 550 km after being fully charged. The police truck, a commercialized model for public entities, is evaluated to have an excellent operational efficiency.

Hyundai Motor plans to put on the market hydrogen electric garbage trucks and water spray trucks next year. Hyundai Motor¡¯s hydrogen drone, which was first introduced in May, was also exhibited.

Hyundai Mobis unveiled the M.Vision tug outfield with a 30KW hydrogen fuel cell power pack.

The tug, inheriting the design factors of Hyundai Mobis¡¯ urban car sharing mobility concept car ¡°M.Vision,¡± is used for mooring aircraft at an airport and transporting baggage.

Hyundai Steel displayed a carbon neutral steel-making process, dubbed ¡°Hy-Cube¡± and bipolar plates for fuel cell, a key component for distributing hydrogen and air and conveying the electricity produced.

The steel maker has mass produced next-generation bipolar plates for fuel cells by producing Hyundai Motor¡¯s hydrogen fuel cell car NEXO since 2018.

Doosan Group exhibited next-generation hydrogen charging and utilization solutions at the fair. Doosan Fuel Cell Co., a Korean fuel cell company, exhibited its "tri-gen" system, a technology designed to produce hydrogen, electricity and heat.

Doosan exhibited its mid-to-low temperature-based solid oxide platform, which is under development, and is considered more advanced than the high-temperature.

It has the ability to operate at a lower temperature increases its durability as a fuel cell system.

Six POSCO companies, including the steelmaker, POSCO International, a trading and energy company, and POSCO E&C, a construction company, participated in the event as well.

The companies displayed the hydrogen production system and hydrogen-based steelmaking technologies. POSCO aims to produce 7 million tons of hydrogen a year by 2050.

SK E&S, a natural gas company, exhibited its water electrolysis facility for hydrogen production and a mockup of an eco-friendly warehouse that uses hydrogen-powered forklifts.

The company set up a joint venture, named SK Plug Hyverse, with Plug Power, a Latham, New York-based hydrogen fuel cell company in January. Plug Power¡¯s hydrogen fuel cells for vehicles and hydrogen chargers were also presented at the event.

The fair, dubbed ¡°Hydrogen Mobility+Show,¡± has been renamed ¡°H2 MEET.¡± The H3 MEET 2020 is the world¡¯s biggest hydrogen industry fair, was the third rendition of the fair.

The latest fair attracted about 30,000 spectators, an 11 percent rise over the previous year¡¯s one.

In his speech at an opening ceremony at the H2 MEET 2022, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said the government will ensure dramatic regulatory reform for the development of the hydrogen economy.

Among those on hand at the opening ceremony were Prime Minister Han, Second Vice Minister Park Il-joon of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, UK trade envoy John Whittingdale, POSCO Chairman Choi Jeong-woo, Hyundai Motor President Jang Jae-hoon, and SK E&S President Chu Hyung-wook.
