Hyundai E&C has become the first Korean company to participate in a smart new city project in Ha Nam Province, Vietnam.
Hyundai E&C is leading efforts to export so-called K-smart infrastructure by playing a leading role in the construction of global eco-friendly smart cities.
In Hanoi on Aug. 29, Hyundai E&C said the contractor became the first Korean company to strike a deal on the public development of the ¡°Ha Nam Eco-friendly Smart City Project Bitexco,¡± which Ha Nam Province will implement.
Bitexco is a Vietnamese company in developing landmark real estate in Hanoi and Hoh Chi Minh and other major cities as well as operating hydro electric and photovoltaic power plants.
Among those on hand at a contract signing ceremony held at Hanoi JW Marriot Hotel were Hyundai E&C President Yoon Young-joon, Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Park Noh-wan, Bitexco Chairman Vu Quang Hoi and Bitexco President Ray Hoi.
The project involves the construction of a leading smart city and building smart services in Ha Nam Province, about 50 km south of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.
The Vietnamese government has designated Hanoi and six surrounding provinces as the Hanoi metropolitan area in 2016, and announced a plan to build a new city, three times bigger than Hanoi. It will be capable of accommodating more than 22.9 million people by 2030.
Hyundai E&C plans to jointly implement a large-scale multipurpose project to build a high-tech industrial district accommodating R&D centers, offices, commercial facilities, and smart logistics centers, and an urban district accommodating residential and service infrastructure. It will have a combined development area of 1,524 ha.
Under the deal, the two companies agreed to jointly participate in eco-friendly smart projects Bitexco will implement.
They agreed on overall matters of the project, such as contribution to creating added values by supporting technologies, including pre-construction services.
Hyundai E&C, participating in the project from a stage of basic design, plans to create synergetic effects by making the most of smart technologies connected with the group, coupled with mobility, robots and platforms.
Starting with the Vietnamese new city project, Hyundai E&C plans to spearhead efforts to explore overseas smart city markets.
Hyundai E&C President Yoon said, ¡°We¡¯ll contribute to realizing human-oriented future cities in which human beings and technologies coexist through strategic partnership with Bitexco, a leader of Vietnamese new city projects.¡±
Starting with the project, to be a pioneering and a historic overseas smart city project, he said, Hyundai E&C will ramp up its leading position of the ¡°Team Korea¡± to expand K-smart infrastructure exports.
