KEPCO E&C held a technology seminar designed to ramp up cooperation with UJV Rez, a nuclear research institute in the Czech Republic, on Sept. 1.
UJV Rez, established in 1955, is a research institute in the nuclear power sector. UJV Rez is the sole engineering company in the Czech Republic with a track record in the nuclear power industry.
It is participating in projects to offer technology support to nuclear power units in operation the Czech Republic. It also constructs new nuclear power units.
The seminar covered topics such as the design of APR1000, a fluid system design, nuclear system design, instrumentation and control system design, the safety analysis code, site design, mechanics design and core design.
Kim Myung-ro, head of KEPCO E&C¡¯s division, Suh Jung-min of KEPCO NF¡¯s team, and CEO Daniel Jiricka of UJV REZ participated in the seminar.
Earlier, KEPCO E&C and KEPCO NF each struck an MOU to promote mutual exchanges with UJV Rez.
Under the deal, both countries agreed on the basic and detailed design of APR1000, a design tailored to meet local demands, expanding technology advise on permits and licenses of the Czech Republic and regulatory conditions.
They also agree to widen cooperation in the small module reactor (SMR) nuclear fuel sector and technology cooperation.
Kim Myung-ro, head of KEPCO E&C¡¯s division said, ¡°We expect Korea and the Czech Republic to have greater synergetic effects by expanding the scope of cooperation with UJV Rez, the latter¡¯s sole company with a track record of nuclear power projects and experiences on nuclear power units in operation.¡±
KEPCO E&C plans to regularize cooperative ties with related companies of the Czech Republic, and host related events, such as technology seminars in Korea, to contribute to Korea¡¯s ability to land nuclear power projects.
Earlier, KEPCO E&C signed an MOU with UJV Rez on Feb. 25 as part of its activities to win a project for new nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic.
The signing of the MOU represents an opportunity to build a cooperation system with UJV Rev in nuclear power plant design and research, and the localization of technology, if KEPCO E&C receives a new nuclear power plant project.
MOU with TES in the Czech Republic
KEPCO E&C signed an MOU on cooperation in a new nuclear power plant business in the Czech Republic with Czech engineering firm TES on June 28.
The MOU signing ceremony was held in Prague, Czech Republic as part of an event dubbed ¡°Night of Korea¡¯s Nuclear Plants and Hi-Tech Industry.¡±
The signing ceremony was attended by officials from the two companies, including KEPCO E&C President Kim Sung-arm and TES CEO Oto Mareček, as well as government officials such as the Korean Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy and the Deputy Minister of the Czech Ministry of Trade and Industry.
As a nuclear engineering company established in 1992, TES provides safety analysis and commissioning support for the Czech and Slovak nuclear power plants.
Through this MOU, the two companies agreed to cooperate in the fields: APR1000 safety analysis, power plant licensing, and technical matters related to local regulations.
KEPCO E&C Strike MOU for Nuclear Plant Business in Poland with ZRE Katowice
KEPCO E&C signed an MOU to cooperate in a new nuclear power plant business in Poland with ZRE Katowice, at an event dubbed ¡°Night of Korea¡¯s Nuclear Power Plants and Hi-Tech Industry¡± in Warsaw, Poland on June 30.
ZRE is considered a major potential supplier for the construction of new nuclear power plants in Poland as it carries out business related to power generation facilities in Poland, including engineering in the field of plumbing and metrology control.
¡°Building a local cooperative network in engineering is an important challenge and a competitive advantage to design a nuclear power plant that is best suited for a country new to nuclear power plants.
We will secure competitive advantage in winning new nuclear power plant projects in Poland by finding more competent potential suppliers such as ZRE and expanding the cooperation network,¡± said KEPCO E&C CEO Kim Sung-arm.
Poland plans to introduce six nuclear power plant units by 2043 to ease its dependence on coal power and achieve carbon neutrality.
The total project cost for the introduction of the new Polish nuclear power plant is expected to reach approximately 40 trillion won.
