KÜS executives visit TS to strengthen international cooperation for the development of future car inspection technologies

KÜS executives experience the demonstrating of future car inspection test-bed at the Korea Automobile Testing Research Institute (KATRI).


Executives of KÜS, a German automobile inspection institution, including CEO Peter Schuler, visited the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) to ramp up international cooperation in the development of future car inspection technologies from Aug. 24 to 25.

Both institutions took stock of cooperative projects they had implemented, and discussed ways of continuing mutual cooperation for the development of future car inspection technologies. 

While touring TS, the KÜS executives participated in the demonstrating of a car head-on collision test conducted at Korea Automobile Testing Research Institute (KATRI) and toured ¡°K-City,¡± a self-driving only testbed. 

The delegation got a briefing about Korea¡¯s car inspection regime at the Korea Advanced Vehicle Inspection Center (KAVIC) and toured a test bench for inspecting self-driving cars and took time to discuss about future car inspection technologies. 

Meanwhile, TS President Kwon Yong-bok struck an MOU on the development of future car inspection technologies and strengthening international cooperation at KÜS headquarters in Losheim, Germany on May 16. 

Both sides will cooperate in the development of inspection technologies of future cars, including hydrogen cars and EVs and inspection guidelines while continue to ramp up international relations such as exchanges for manpower development. 

TS President Kwon said, ¡°Raising inspection technology capabilities of future cars such as self-driving vehicles is essential for strengthening competitiveness in the upcoming future mobility era.¡±
 
TS will do its utmost to see it that people can use automobiles in a safer fashion through continued exchanges with Germany, he added.

TS Organizes Policy Debate on Revitalizing Future Mobility

TS held a policy debate with experts in the Korean mobility sector in attendance at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in downtown Seoul on Aug. 12. 

The debate was designed to cope with the rapidly changing mobility environment in a preemptive fashion, explore new growth engines in a mid- and long-term perspective and gather diverse views such as collaboration between TS and the private sector and field-oriented, regulatory improvement matters.

The seminar had topic presentation of each of the four sectors TS has been implementing: self-driving cars, eco-friendly cars and drone/UAM, and mobility policy service and an in-depth discussion of ways of ramping up cooperation with the private sector. 

Starting with a theme presentation by Prof. Lee Jung-gi of Hongik University about technology cooperation and ways of promoting collaboration in the self-driving valet parking system sector, civilian expert panelists in the mobility sector presented policy proposals and following in-depth discussions. 

Participants shared diverse views on mutual cooperation between TS and the private sector to spur the future mobility sector to cope with mobility environment and how to revitalize the mobility industry. 

TS President Kwon Yong-bok said, ¡°TS will aggressively push for the exploration of cooperative matters with the private sector to promote the future mobility sector in accordance with the government¡¯s mobility innovation policies and bridging the government and the private sector.¡± 

President Kwon called for government, academia and private institutions¡¯ full concern and cooperation. 


TS Committed to Ensuring Safety of Cable Cars and Monorails

The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) held an educational course for safety officials in charge of the safe operation of rail facilities, such as cable cars and monorails, at Bears Hotel in Chuncheon from Sept. 1 to Sept. 2. 

The program was designed to help officials in charge of the safety of rail facilities raise field management capabilities. 

About 74 officials in charge of the safety of cable cars, sky resorts and monorails across the nation participated in the program.
