The National Forestry Cooperative Federation (NFCF) signed an MOU with its Japanese counterpart in Tokyo on Aug. 25 to revitalize the management of private forests.

During a signing ceremony, NFCF Chairman Choi Chang-ho met Kazuhisa Nakazaki, chairman of the National Federation of the Forest Owners¡¯ Cooperative Associations of Japan, and CEO Hiroshi Tomiyama and they agreed to promote cooperation to revitalize private forests. 

The deal calls for sharing information related to forest policies and systems, exchanging educational information on the development of technologies and training, cooperating in events designed to promote the development of private forests, cooperating international conferences, and on matters for mutual development.

Specifically, NFCF proposed the establishment of communication channels to share forest information between the two countries, giving an opportunity to admit a forest planner educational school, holding annual technology seminars on the exchanging of forest management technologies between the two institutions, and exchange programs such as cooperative executives¡¯ tour designed to promote the use of timbers.

During the event, the two institutions shared analyses of their respective situations and the status of institutions between Japan and Korea. 

The two entities held a working-level meeting following the signing ceremony, designed to discuss specific ways of promoting the management of forests between the two countries, including participation in an educational program for training Japanese forest business planners.

The National Federation Forest Owners¡¯ Cooperative Associations of Japan has 610 cooperative entities and 1.5 million cooperative members. 

The federation has been conducting ¡°Forest, Forestry, Mountainous Village Future Creation Movement¡± since 2016 and promoting the development of Japan¡¯s private forests and building a system of stabilizing timber supply. 

NFCF Chairman Choi said, ¡°Korean and Japanese forest cooperatives will achieve the promotion of forests through mutual exchanges.¡± 

The two institutions will explore specific ways of cooperation through the MOU and achieve the development of private forests, he added. 


Cheongyang County Forest Co-op Conducts Fact-Finding Survey into Damage

The Cheongyang County Forest Cooperative in Chungcheongnam-do conducted activities to restore significant damage caused by downpours that forest farming households received. 

The Cheongyang area received major damage caused by downpours, which hit between Aug. 12 and Aug. 13, to the extent that a special disaster zone was declared. 

The cooperative conducted a fact-finding survey after discussing ways of offering support after holding emergency consultations with military authorities.

NFCF Strikes MOU on IFOAM-Goesan Int¡¯l Organic Expo with Chungcheongbuk-do

The National Forestry Cooperative Federation (NFCF) and Chongcheongbuk-do provincial government signed an MOU on the successful hosting of 2022 IFOAM-Goesan International Organic Expo at the provincial government building on Aug. 23. 

At a signing ceremony, NFCF Chairman Choi Chang-ho met with Chungcheongbuk-do Gov. Kim Young-hwan and promised to cooperate in the operation of booths and online and off-line publication. 

The 2022 IFOAM-Goesan International Organic Expo and Industry Fair will be held from Sept. 30 through Oct. 16 at the Organic Farming Expo site area in Goesan Country under the theme ¡°Organic Life — Science Meets the Public.¡±
