NongHyup Bank announced on Sept. 15 that it will participate as an investor in Templeton Hana New Deal Infrastructure BTL 3, an ESG investment fund managed by Templeton Hana Asset Management.

Templeton Hana New Deal Infrastructure BTL No. 3 is an NH blind fund worth about 200 billion won that invests in educational facility projects such as the Green Smart School BTL Project. Nonghyup Bank has agreed to invest 20 billion won.

A build transfer lease (BTL) project refers to a business method that supports the recovery of investments in the form of building public facilities with private funds, transferring their ownership to the government, and paying rent to private operators.

Nonghyup Bank is steadily expanding investment in BTL funds, which expand social benefits by improving social infrastructure.

It started with an investment of 100 billion won in 2021 and made an investment of an additional 50 billion won in 2022. It will further expand ESG-related investments by participating in the Green Smart School BTL Project among others.

¡°We will actively practice ESG management by providing comfortable spaces for children by transforming old school facilities into eco-friendly and cutting-edge learning spaces,¡± said Kim Chun-an, vice president of agriculture and green finance at NongHyup Bank.

Meanwhile, NongHyup Bank is planning to provide approximately 8 trillion won in financial support to the ESG sector by 2025.
