Shinhan Financial Group announced on Sept. 23 that it had held an open innovation event in Hanoi, Vietnam, along with a ceremony of Shinhan Futures Lab in Hanoi.
In attendance were Cho Yong-byoung, chairman of Shinhan Financial Group and high-ranking Vietnamese government officials.
Shinhan Futures Lab nurtured a total of 282 innovative startups from its inception in May 2015 to 2021.
It has been recognized as a representative startup accelerator with total direct and indirect investments of 59.5 billion won in domestic and foreign startups.
In addition, Shinhan Futures Lab launched the first global accelerator program in the financial sector in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in December 2016.
The lab has produced various positive results such as support for 11 Korean startups in advancing into Vietnam and selecting and nurturing 40 Vietnamese startups.
With the opening of Shinhan Futures Lab¡¯s Hanoi office as an opportunity, Shinhan Financial Group plans to strengthen cooperation with the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology and strive to create and expand the local venture ecosystem in Vietnam.
In addition, based on its startup nurturing know-how, Shinhan Futures Lab will provide various programs.
Some include support for Korea-Vietnam startup exchanges and the operation of open innovation programs and events in Vietnam.
Four Korean companies that received support from Shinhan Futures Lab and entered Vietnam also participated in the event, introducing the status of their business in Vietnam and cases of collaboration between Korea and Vietnam, and expressing their determination to make their business successful.
¡°As Korea and Vietnam celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, the opening of Shinhan Futures Lab¡¯s Hanoi office has great significance in strengthening private exchanges between the two countries and delivering Shinhan¡¯s know-how to foster startups to Vietnam,¡± Chairman Cho said.

Patent Received for Shinhan Plus Membership Booster
Shinhan Financial Group announced on Oct. 29 that it has acquired a patent on Membership Booster, a membership management service of Shinhan Plus, an integrated financial platform of the group.
Membership Booster helps customers receive differentiated benefits by recommending products that can effectively increase Shinhan Financial Group transaction scores, through Shinhan Plus and reflecting points, on the confirmation of membership levels when signing up for products.
On April 20, when Shinhan Financial Group reorganized the group¡¯s excellent customer management system, Tops Club, into Shinhan Plus Membership, it used Membership Booster to simplify grade calculation methods that were different at group affiliates and to subdivide the membership grades.
Shinhan Plus, used by 17.8 million customers as of the end of July, plans to expand not only services such as financial product recommendations through Shinhan Plus membership, but also non-financial services such as My Shinhan Point payment and conversion and free stamp coupons.
Shinhan Plus is installed on Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s major apps such as Shinhan SOL (banking), Shinhan pLay (credit cards), Shinhan Alpha (financial investment) and Square (life insurance).
There is no need to install additional apps. It is an integrated financial platform that provides various and beneficial financial services.
Cooperation with KISED
Shinhan Financial Group announced on Aug. 19 that it signed a business agreement with the Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Development (KISED) under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups at the Shinhan Financial Group Headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul on Aug. 18 to support Korean startups¡¯ advancement into Japan.
Kim Yong-moon, president of the KISED and Kim Myung-hee, CDO of Shinhan Financial Group attended the signing ceremony of the business agreement on the same day.
They met with representatives of Shinhan Futures Lab companies planning to make inroads into Japan to listen to a briefing about their preparations and promised to give active support to them in the future.
Based on this MOU, Shinhan Futures Lab and the KISED will promote various types of collaboration such as support for baby unicorn companies wishing to advance into Japan, global open innovation that matches Korean startups with promising technologies with Japanese conglomerates, holding forums and conferences to expand exchanges between participants from both countries.
