The Food Industry Promotional Agency of Korea (FIPA) said it is implementing a verification project to monitor on the improvement of nutrient imbalance and satisfaction by offering the elderly foods utilizing excellent senior-friendly ingredients.
Excellent senior-friendly foods refer to food products processed in consideration of the elderly¡¯s intake, nutrient supplement and digestion.
Three institutions participating in the verification research have been designated in a public contest via FIPA¡¯s website. They are the Jeonju Area Self-Support Center, an elderly daycare center and Kyunghee University.
Research subjects include about 2,000 elderly people, who are aged 65 or more, and require an improved nutrient imbalance.
The institutions participating in the study plan to form and operate a consultative body.
The self-support center will deliver packaged food, while the elderly welfare center will provide meals to the research subjects.
Kyunghee University plans to conduct scientific analysis by monitoring the nutrient imbalance improvement and satisfaction of the research subjects, who are provided with senior-friendly foods.
The project is expected to contribute to creating the right dietary habits for the elderly subjects, improving the nutrient imbalance and bettering their health.
Scientific data from the project are to be used for manuals to manage nutrient levels of meals to be supplied to the elderly, as well as exploring and overhauling policies.
President Lee Seung-heon of the elderly welfare center, said, ¡°I¡¯m pleased to have an opportunity to offer quality meals to the elderly.¡±
