Amorepacific announced on July 11 that its ¡°L-glutamic acid fermented GABA powder,¡± developed based on its research over the past 77 years, was acknowledged as an individually recognized functional ingredient that can help improve sleep quality by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).
Individually recognized ingredients refer to ingredients that are studied and developed over several years by a manufacturer, and are recognized individually for their functionality and safety by the MFDS after going through a series of stringent reviews and human studies.
By receiving the recognition for the L-glutamic acid fermented GABA powder as an ingredient that can improve sleep quality, Amorepacific has now obtained its sixth individually recognized ingredient.
Amorepacific found that supplementing ¡®GABA,¡¯ which is a material relevant to sleep that exists in brain tissue, from an external source, can contribute to sleep quality, so it developed the ¡®L-glutamic acid fermented GABA powder.¡¯
When taken consistently, it can help improve the quality of sleep. It is a safe ingredient for anyone from adults to the older generation to take.
A spokesperson for Amorepacific¡¯s main inner beauty brand VITAL BEAUTIE said, ¡°The results of the human studies of the newly developed ¡®L-glutamic acid fermented GABA powder¡¯ showed that there were improvements in 7 sleep-related indicators including sleep efficiency, total sleep time, and total awake time¡± and added, ¡°VITAL BEAUTIE plans to launch a health functional food for sleep improvement using ¡®L-glutamic acid fermented GABA powder¡¯ as the main ingredient by next month.¡±
Demand for good sleep is increasing every year with more and more consumers taking an interest in health functional foods, or health supplements, related to sleep improvement.
It is anticipated that the recently recognized ¡®L-glutamic acid fermented GABA powder¡¯ will help those who struggle to sleep along with the existing ingredients in the market such as lactium, rice bran extract, and ecklonia cava extract.
Amorepacific Strikes PPA with KEPCO, Econetwork
Amorepacific singed a tripartite power purchase agreement (PPA) with Korea Electric Power Corp. and Econetwork.
Under the deal, approved by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Amore Beauty Park, located in Osan, will be supplied with renewable energy by a 2.8MW photovoltaic power facility for 20 years from Aug. 1.
The tripartite PPA calls for trading renewable energy power among three parties with KEPCO signing a power purchase agreement with the renewable energy power supplier and striking a sales agreement with Amorepacific based on a deal between Amorepacific and the power supplier.
Under the main contract, brokered by KEPCO, Amore Beauty Park will secure additional renewable energy accounting for about 21 percent of power supplied by KEPCO last year.
Amore Beauty Park, producing major products such as Sulwhasoo and Laneige, has already secured a 2.6MW photovoltaic power generation infrastructure.
Amorepacific is recognized for using renewable energy by KEPCO¡¯s ¡°green premium¡± considering and no photovoltaic power supply time and insufficient power generation.
By securing an additional renewable energy under the tripartite PPA, Amore Beauty Park will be able to produce all products using only renewable energy by the end of this year.
Econetwork, a partner of the agreement, is an renewable energy development and environment consulting company, operating 100MW Yeonggwang photovoltaic power plant with 312MWh energy storage systems, the nation¡¯s largest-ever one as well as solar farms in Euiseong, Sangju, Beolgyo and Jeju.
Starting with the tripartite PPA, Econetwork plans to lead the planning of company-based photovoltaic power generation business models to implement the RE100 initiative.
Amorepacific disclosed five promises to achieve sustainability management by 2030 last year and declared carbon neutrality at global production sites as one of promises to coexist with the Nature.
Amorepacific plan to achieve the goal of raising the portion of renewable energies to 100 percent by 2025.
