Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (YGPA) officials embarked on a field inspection tour to prevent accidents of port facilities and facilitate communication with port officials.

YGPA President Park Sung-hyun toured Hapo General Pier, the Maritime Industry Cluster pier and then POSCO products and raw materials piers on Aug. 5.

He conducted an inspection to ensure safe stevedoring sites. President Park also met with pier operator officials and stevedoring workers and took time to lend an ear to the voices of field sites and urge them to ensure the safety of port facilities.

President Park¡¯s inspection tour may be construed as a move to fulfill management tenets: customer-oriented management, field-oriented management, safety-first management and management based on communication and prosperity.

President Park said, ¡°YGPA will build a close cooperative system through continued communications with Yeosu and Gwangyang port officials.¡±

YGPA will explore ways of reinvigorating Yeosu and Gwangyang ports with port officials to conduct a first-hand inspection to the ports and lend an ear to voices of port workers, he added.

YGPA Succeeds in Upsizing Container Ships on SM Line¡¯s PNS

Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (YGPA) attracted six 6,500-TEU container ships on SM Line¡¯s PNS route thanks to YGPA officials¡¯ marketing activities.

YGPA executives and staff members, including President Park Sung-hyun, aggressively promoted Gwangyang Port to SM Line executives and officials in the first half of this year to secure ship space, which has been getting insufficient due to tie-ups at U.S west coast ports, caused by the COVID pandemic.

They made joint efforts to take steps to import and export logistics from and to the U.S. west coast.

YGPA has been evaluated to have managed to upsize the PNS service in cooperation with SM Line¡¯s Canada branch.

About 70,000 TEU out of annual import logistics volumes from North America is expected to be handled at Gwangyang Port through the upsizing of the PNS service.

The upsizing of the PNS service has an effect of increasing 40,000 TEU import volumes or a 135 percent jump over pre-upsizing volume of 40,000 TEU.

A YGPA official said marketing activities toward the national flag carrier led to the upsizing of the PNS route. YGPA will further expand marketing toward Korean and foreign alliances, the official said.

Meanwhile, an upsized container ship entered Gwangyang Port West Container Terminal at 10:30 p.m. on July 23.

YGPA Inaugurates Management Innovation Body

Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (YGPA) inaugurated a team to pursue dramatic management innovation and realize sustainable management, YGPA said on July 15.

The body, headed by YGPA President Park Sung-hyun, is designed to achieve management innovation by mobilizing its companywide capabilities.

The body consists of three teams: manpower/organization efficiency team, financing/asset management team, and management efficiency team.
