Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM) conducted the third National Beach Plogging Campaign in Incheon, South Chungcheong Province, Tongyeong and Mokpo on Aug. 20.
The third plogging campaign was held in four areas — Minmeoru Beach on Ganghwa Island, Incheon, Chunjangdae Beach in Seocheon, South Chungcheong Province, on Eoido Island in Tongyeong, and Geumhwa-dong Beach in Mokpo — wipers, Human in Love small action and TG KFEM.
The event was prepared to commemorate the 7IMDC to be held at BEXCO in Busan in September.
It is a campaign that KOME has conducted four times — Gwangalli in Busan in June, Hanagae in Incheon, Wonsando in South Chungcheong Province and Sagye Beach in Jeju in July.
Applications for participation in the campaign were made on the Ocean Care Platform home page.
Participants listened to safety guidelines, learned how to separate collected waste and received gloves, sacks, tongs, and handkerchiefs to collect beach trash.
As part of annual community commitment, KOEM conducted a joint environmental cleanup activity with public institutions and the Garakgol Merchants Association in the Songpa-gu area in late July.
This activity was carried out in the Garakgol area, such as Peak Woori Children's Park and Biseok Street Park.
It was led by the ESG Management Council of public institutions in Songpa-gu that built a community contribution cooperation system and is putting sustainable management into practice.
Examination of Preparations for Typhoons
KOEM announced on Aug. 11 that it conducted special safety inspections on ships belonging to 12 affiliated organizations in preparation for inclement weather situations such as typhoons in the summer.
This inspection is aimed at strengthening prevention and response postures to cope with industrial accidents in case of bad weather, and inspected safety facilities on board, control equipment, personal safety equipment, situation reporting and emergency contact networks.
In addition, by educating behavioral tips and on-site precautions in the event of a typhoon, KOEM workers will be able to focus on preventing accidents and maintain a prompt and systematic response posture by sharing an emergency contact network with related organizations.
¡°If we anticipate and prepare for dangerous situations in advance, we can minimize damage,¡± said Kim Tae-gon, head of the Marine Disaster Prevention Headquarters at KOEM. ¡°We will do our best to respond promptly and systematically to prevent pollution accidents.¡±
KOEM announced on July 20 that it would hold an inauguration ceremony for the 5,000-ton multi-purpose large-scale clean-up ship Endam at Yeosu New Port.
The launch ceremony was attended by Han Gi-jun, CEO of KOEM, Kim Jun-seok, head of the Fisheries Policy Office of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and Choi Jeong-ki, director of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Bureau of South Jeolla Province.
The vessel has a gross tonnage of 5,566 tons. It is 104 meters long, 20.6 meters wide and 8.3 meters tall.
It is capable of carrying out disaster prevention work, passage dredging work, the collection of navigational obstacles, putting out fires on vessels and towing ships in emergencies.
