Korea Southern Power Co. (KOSPO) said on July 1 the power company was accelerating efforts to innovate design in cooperation with Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP). To this end, KOSPO signed an MOU on innovation of laborer-oriented design with KOSPO.
Safety design refers to the promotion of the safety of laborers in diverse areas, such as work environment, communication and products, based on sympathy and understanding by watching laborers¡¯ behaviors in the whole of the process of their working.
KOSPO plans to devise a design to promote the safety of a power plant to prevent safety accidents the plant may suffer in cooperation with KIDP and apply it to the whole of the operation of its plants.
The two institutions plan to develop and introduce the safety design of a power plant to build a safe working environment, offer support and cooperation, such as the safety and design manpower to upgrade safety design, and exchange information to raise laborers¡¯ awareness toward safety and promote cooperation.
KIDP is Korea¡¯s sole public entity representing industrial design. The institution has manpower rich in expertise on industrial design and research.
KIDP is also implementing diverse research and pilot projects related to safety design of industrial complexes.
KOSPO President Lee Seung-woo said, ¡°KOSPO will protect laborers from a variety of disasters and safety accidents by employing safety design to the industrial design.¡±
The power company will apply safety design to the field of power generation to ensure ¡°subconscious safety¡± the power company pursues, President Lee said.

KIDP Promotes Design Exchange with RCA of UK
Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP) struck an MOU on ramping up design exchanges and cooperation with the globally reclaimed Royal College of Art, KIDP said on June 14.
The agreement, struck on June 13, calls for developing good educational programs through their collaboration to nurture manpower with global mind and a competitive edge.
Under the deal, KIDP and RCA will cooperate to jointly plan and host educational programs under the theme of design thinking for design educational programs and design innovation in Korea and UK.
KIDP President Yoon Sang-heum said, ¡°It is an imperative for designers with a potential to acquire foreign design knowledge and information and promote exchanges and cooperation with foreign institutions to offer effective education.¡±
KIDP will devote itself to nurturing design manpower by aggressively cooperating with RCA in accordance with the MOU, he added.
