The Woori Multicultural Scholarship Foundation of Woori Financial Group held the 2022 Scholarship Delivery Ceremony at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul on July 12.
It handed out a total of 830 million won in scholarships to 600 children of multicultural families and small business owners hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
About 80 people attended the event, including Sohn Tae-seung, chairman of Woori Financial Group, 36 scholarship students and their families. Sohn doubles as chairman of the Woori Multicultural Scholarship Foundation.
The scholarship students totaled 600 this time. There were 500 people from multicultural families from 29 countries, who are working hard to live out their dreams despite difficult circumstances, and 100 children of small business owners forced to close their businesses due to COVID-19.
In particular, a performance was put on under the theme of ¡°Today Is My Day¡± and made the meaning of the scholarship ceremony more special.
The celebration was attended by members of the Woori Multicultural Choir and the Woori Multicultural Orchestra, both of which are excellent programs of the Woori Multicultural Scholarship Foundation, along with Ha Yu-bin, a talent student specializing in playing the flute.
¡°This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Woori Multicultural Scholarship Foundation,¡± Chairman Sohn said.
¡°I am happy to meet scholarship students in person and deliver scholarships to them. We will go to any lengths to help them grow into constructive members of society down the road.¡±
The Woori Multicultural Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit foundation established by Woori Financial Group affiliates including Woori Bank, with 20 billion won in 2012.
It has provided 5.3 billion won in scholarships to 5,269 people on 14 occasions for 11 years since its establishment.
Chairman Sohn¡¯s Participation in Cooking Class
Woori Financial Group announced on July 11 that Chairman Sohn participated in the One-Day Cooking Class with MZ Generation employees of group affiliates and enjoyed an informal communication time with them.
The theme of the event was free talk between MZ generation employees who lead the group¡¯s organizational culture innovation and the CEO.
In particular, Chairman Sohn had time to eat food which he cooked on his own, with the employees and talk comfortably. Sohn has usually emphasized the importance of communication with employees of the MZ generation.
¡°I was able to naturally get closer with employees of the MZ generation and learn a lot from them while cooking with them,¡± he said ¡°Reverse Mentoring is a communication method that defies seniority and job rankings. I will continue to have time to share these experiences with executives and employees.¡±
¡°We were able to talk a lot while learning from one another in a comfortable and unbridled atmosphere,¡± said the employees who participated in the event. ¡°It was most impressive to see the group¡¯s CEO make friends with the employees without formality.¡±
Issuance of 2021 Sustainable Management Report
Woori Financial Group announced on July 10 that it published the Woori Financial Group Sustainable Management Report under the title of ¡°Good Finance for the NEXT.¡± The report describes the Woori Financial Group¡¯s sustainable management activities and performances in 2021.
Since the launch of a holding company in 2019, Woori Financial Group has transparently disclosed its sustainable management activities and performances of group subsidiaries such as Woori Bank to stakeholders every year. This sustainable management report is the fourth one in the fourth year of the group system.
In this report, Woori Financial Group introduced various ESG activities to achieve the group¡¯s ESG vision of creating a better world through finance.
First of all, the Overview section introduced Woori Financial Group¡¯s ESG vision and strategy system, and the status of joining global initiatives.
The Focusing Issue chapter delves into five key sustainable management issues, climate change management, and COVID-19 response as special pages.
In addition, the ESG Performance part revealed detailed performance in each field of environment, society and governance.
The Data & Assurance and Appendix pages help stakeholders to better understand the report by disclosing quantitative data.
