Shinhan Financial to Give Financial Support to Young People in 4 Major Areas
Holds a meeting to mark the first anniversary of a partnership to foster startups with Google

Shinhan Financial Group held the Second Shinhan Culture Forum on July 7 with Chairman Cho Yong-byoung and CEOs and the participation of executives of affiliates. 

This Second Shinhan Culture Forum was held under the theme of ¡°Re:boot Shinhan! World Class & Better Future,¡± which means re-examining Shinhan¡¯s business DNA and determining a shift in Shinhan¡¯s corporate culture.

On the day, Shinhan Financial Group announced the Youth Four-Ten Project. 

According to the project, Shinhan Financial Group will provide direct and indirect financial support for young people in four major areas with more than 10 trillion won. 

It also means Shinhan Financial Group will become a strong supporter of young people, as the financial group celebrates its 40th anniversary this year as a major financial group in Korea.

Shinhan Financial Group plans to promote youth support over the next five years, focusing on four key areas: ensuring housing and life stability, increasing asset growth, creating decent jobs and promoting welfare.

Shinhan Financial Group will give direct and indirect financial support of about 11 trillion won in order to ensure young people¡¯s housing and living stability. 

Major tasks include 7.6 trillion won in housing purchase loans, 2.55 trillion won in ¡°Jeonse¡± and monthly rent loans and lower interest rates and exemption of guarantees for young people. 

Next, Shinhan Financial Group will provide youth with preferential financial products worth 2.7 trillion won to help them increase their assets. 

It will also sell installment savings products with higher interest rates and youth-specific financial products worth about 400 billion won.

Shinhan also plans to expand jobs to employ 17,000 young people. 

Shinhan Group will hire 7,000 people for five years, and spend about 167.5 billion won to create jobs for 10,000 people through various employment and start-up programs operated by Shinhan Financial Group including Shinhan Square Bridge, Global Young Challenge, Youth Debt Total Care and Future Lab.

Finally, Shinhan Financial Group will spend 50 billion won to promote the welfare of young people, including support for young people¡¯s childbirth and childcare and jobs and education for disabled people. 

¡°We have been able to overcome various crises such as Korea¡¯s financial meltdown, the global financial crisis, and the pandemic since the foundation of Shinhan Financial Group,¡± Chairman Cho said.

¡°Let¡¯s support young people and contribute to the happiness of our customers and the prosperity of society through the Shinhan Youth Four-Ten Project.¡±

In the meantime, Shinhan Financial Group announced that it held a meeting to commemorate the first anniversary of a partnership to foster startups with Google For Startups (GFS) at Shinhan Square Bridge Incheon in Songdo, Incheon on July 13. 

Since inking an MOU with GFS in July last year, Shinhan Financial Group has jointly fostered 20 smart city startups through Shinhan Square Bridge Incheon, the group¡¯s startup fostering platform, attracting investment of 28.2 billion won, doubling their corporate value, and helping them find global partners.

Shinhan Financial Group was selected as a GFS global partner in recognition of this achievement in 2022. 

This partnership offers promising startups Google¡¯s Google Academy programs, networking with global partners and startups in 60 countries, Google AdWords Credit and global VC and founder workshops.

Google Korea President Kim Kyoung-hoon, Shinhan Financial Group Vice President Ahn Jun-sik, Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority Deputy Director Sung Yong-won, and startup officials attended the event. 

They made presentations on the past year¡¯s achievements and promised continued cooperation through the partnership. 

In addition, Shinhan Financial Group held the 2022 Shinhan Square Bridge Incheon Accelerating Membership Orientation.

Fifteen startups selected for this membership will receive various support from Shinhan Financial Group, GFS, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority and Celltrion. 

The support includes customized solution consulting, open innovation and demonstration opportunities, exclusive funds and investment attraction and Google programs and networking.
