4th Chain Port Academy takes place under theme ¡®at the Interface of Digitalization and Sustainability¡¯

Busan Port Authority (BPA) held the 4th Chain Port Academy, a workshop including IT officials of major ports around the world for three days from June 20. 

The Chain Port Academy is one of the working groups under the umbrella of the Chain Port, an international consultative body designed to share information and data among major ports around the world to digitalize shipping and port sectors. 

The 4th Chain Port Academy took place at BPA headquarters, Busan Port International Passenger Terminal and ¡°1876 Busan,¡± a shipping & port startups platform, under the theme ¡°at the Interface of Digitalization and Sustainability.¡±




IT officials of major ports around the world pose for a group photo while participating in the 4th Chain Port Academy, which took place at BPA from June 20 to 22. 



On Day 1, participants of the seminar visited BPA headquarters and met with BPA President Kang Jun-suk. During the meeting, they discussed ¡°Chain Portal,¡± a blockchain technology-based port community system, which is BPA¡¯s representative digital project and a global example case. 

Participants toured 1876 Busan and shared diverse projects related to Busan Port. BPA established 1876 Busan, a startup support platform designed to aid startups in shipping and port industries, and nurture manpower.

Rotterdam, Hamburg, Singapore, Antwerp and Barcelona ports made a presentation on metaverse, smart ports, digitalization of maritime shipping, and experiences related to the introducing of AI-based port. They also shared views at the session titled ¡°Port¡¯s Digital World and Innovation.¡±

BPA President Kang told participants prior to the seminar that BPA was pleased to host the Chain Port Academy, which was resumed in two years due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and it would take it as an opportunity to share diverse examples in areas of digitalization of global ports and contribution of eco-friendliness and regional society and reflect them in BPA¡¯s management and operation policies.

BPA Hosts 15th Busan Port Festival

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), Busan City Government and Busan Port Authority (BPA) jointly hosted the 15th Busan Port Festival at Busan Port International Passenger Terminal, North Port water-front park, and Korea National Maritime Museum in Yeongdo from July 2 to July 3. 

A ceremony to open the festival took place at an outside parking lot of Busan Port International Passenger Terminal at 8 p.m. on July 2 under the theme ¡°Wishing for Attracting 2030 Busan World Expo.¡± The festival proceeded with a commemorative performance, an opening ceremony, media façade film showing and fireworks at Busan Port. 

Among major events were Biergarten & Food Truck, designed to enjoy Busan¡¯s representative hand-made beer products with night views of Busan Port, ¡°Busan Port Stamp Tour,¡± a mission tour program connected with five maritime clusters, and ¡°Busan Mini-Concert.¡± 

The Navy and Korea Coast Guard held events to display ships. The festival also coincided with events to board the Saenuri-ho, a port guidance ship, and the Jagalchi cruise ship on top of enjoying kayak, yacht and motorboat rides. 

Spectators were given the chance to watch ¡°North Port Mast Ball,¡± which made its debut this year. They also watched performance, such as b-boying, street dancing and K-EDM.
