Korea Land and Geospatial Information Corp. (LX) and Korean Association for Housing Policy Studies (KAHPS) jointly organized ¡°2022 H1 KAHPS Symposium¡± in which a broad consensus was built on the necessity of introducing digital twins from June 16 to 17.
¡°Now is a golden time to apply digital twins to housing polices,¡± Prof. Lim Mi-hwa of Jeonju University said. ¡°The past 50 years was a period in which consumers scurried up to win lotteries by meeting subscription conditions, but applying digital twins will be a watershed of changing housing policies by making services tailored to meet consumers¡¯ needs available from a planning stage.¡±
Prof. Kim Jeong-sup of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) spoke of how to utilize digital twins as housing policy platform at a special session, titled ¡°What If Housing Polices Meet Digital Twins at an Era of Digital Economy.¡±
Prof. Kim said, ¡°It is necessary to implement urban housing policies considering sites and space design comprehensively instead of the past¡¯s volume-oriented housing policies - making a policy decision on a scientific basis through digital twin as a housing policy platform.¡±
Prof. Lim of Jeonju University claimed that it should have ended up hyping building digital twins according to each city, country and ward unit, but also has to develop and utilize housing services.
She also demanded the revision of the Housing Act to utilize basic materials, coupled with government platforms such as digital twins.
Choi Song-wook, head of LX¡¯s Spatial Information Division, stressed the need for the establishment of digital twin-based housing policies.
Choi cited prior analysis of housing environment, such as changing the use of land and raising floor area ratio, decision-making on housing choice such as refurbishment methods and calculation of sharing of expenses, and the possibility of supporting plans to supply life SOC and housing infrastructure.

KAHPS Chairman Kim Duk-rae said, ¡°The past¡¯s housing policies will be transformed into new innovative policy tools by meeting advanced technologies, such as digital twins.¡±
Chairman Kim spoke of building stepping stones for the purpose of people¡¯s housing happiness based on diverse discussions on the direction of desirable housing policies.
LX President Kim Jung-ryul said, ¡°If housing policies, urban plans, and spatial information are combined and converged, it will be possible to establish policies reflecting efficiency and reality.¡±
LX will aggressively join forces to solve social issues through combination of housing policies such as utilization of digital twins and metaverse and spatial information, he added.
Meanwhile, among those on hand at the discussions of the special session were Kim I-tak, former standing member of the Land Tribunal of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), Kim Jung-ju, senior research with the Construction Economy Research Institute of Korea (CERIK), Kim Jin, head of LX¡¯s Spatial Information Research Institute, Song In-ho, senior researcher with Korea Development Research Institute, and President Lee Suk-woo of Dongrim P&D.
They demanded the utilization of digital twins and LX¡¯s roles to change housing policies.
