Dongwon F&B is accelerating efforts to promote ESG management by reducing the use of 1,200 tons of plastic annually by redesigning Dongwon Mineral Water¡¯s bottles to be lighter.
Dongwon F&B¡¯s two-year R&D resulted in the reduction of the weight of Dongwon Mineral Water¡¯s 500 mL and 2L PET bottles by 15.7 percent and 8.4 percent, respectively.
Dongwon F&B introduced an eco-cap to lower waste from Dongwon Mineral Water¡¯s bottles. It also reduced the length of its label 20 percent to raise eco-friendliness. These steps resulted in cutting an estimated about 1,200 tons of plastic consumption.
Dongwon F&B also conducted a renewal of Dongwon Mineral Water¡¯s package design. The new design visualizes the natural environment of Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi-do, one of Dongwon Mineral Water¡¯s representative water sources, while the product¡¯s cooling and clean image is drawn on its label.

Dongwon F&B has spearheaded the mineral water industry¡¯s efforts to implement sustainable management through ESG activities.
The company struck a deal to lighten the weight of their bottles with the Environment Ministry in 2013, and reduced the weight of Dongwon Mineral Water¡¯s 500mL bottle from 19 grams to 14 grams.
The company also introduced ¡°Dongwon Mineral Water Fresh,¡± the industry¡¯s first frozen cold storage water instead of the ice pack in 2020. It also released ¡°Dongwon Mineral Water Label-Free,¡± sans its label last year.
Dongwon F&B has been engaged in active communication with MZ generations by launching ¡°mullo,¡± the industry¡¯s first app for challenging public health and sustainable society, in April.
Mullo is an app in which participants drink 2L of water, run or conduct daily routine things to chip in donations for environment and social contribution activities, such as campaigns to help children who skip meals.
Dongwon F&B has also distributed eco-friendly uniforms, made with waste from PET bottles to field executives and staffers of Dongwon Mineral Water outlets across the nation, an opportunity to put into practice ESG management.
The uniform is a kind of upcycling garment each made with 14 500mL waste bottles.
The company has also been conducting diverse ESG management activities like an event to promote value of recycling along with Kia Motors¡¯ EV6.
A Dongwon F&B official said, ¡°Dongwon Mineral Water¡¯s eco-friendly project is part of ESG campaigns to fulfill corporate economical responsibilities encompassing all processes ranging from a stage of developing products to production, distribution and sales.¡±
The company will make efforts to have diverse products introduce eco-friendly elements by continuing to care for the environment, the official added.
