Woori Financial Group announced on April 5 that it launched ¡°Our Green Future Campaign¡± to create green spaces at schools through the collection of plastic household items by elementary school students in honor of Arbor Day which falls on April 5 in Korea.

This campaign is a resources recycling activity that makes up-cycling flowerpots by separately collecting and recycling plastic which is used in daily lives but is difficult to clean and recycle. 

Upcycling refers to various processes by which old products are modified and get a second life as they are changed into new products. 

In addition to Woori Financial Group Headquarters, children from 35 elementary schools nationwide will participate in the campaign. 

The 35 elementary schools were selected as pilot carbon-neutral schools in 2022 and include Galgot Elementary School in Gyeonggi Province, Tangjeong Elementary School in South Chungcheong Province and Boramae Elementary School in Seoul.

When our children put plastics for household items used at home and school into Green Collection Boxes at their schools, TerraCycle, a recycling-specialized company, collects and recycles all of them. 

Upcycling flowerpots made using recycled materials are donated to create forests for classrooms in elementary schools that participated in the campaign. 

As students practice plastic recycling, the campaign is expected to naturally fuel their interest in environmental protection and resources recycling. 

Woori Financial Group will continue to increase the number of participating schools in the future to spread an eco-friendly culture in our society.

¡°We will take the lead in creating a clean and better future together with children who will lead our society in the future,¡± said Sohn Tae-seung, chairman of Woori Financial Group.

Meanwhile, Woori Financial Group signed a business agreement with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in March for circular economy activities. 

In cooperation with the WWF, the financial group will hold not only this campaign, but also a stakeholder conference to practice a circular economy and strengthening ESG management, and form internal and external consensuses and conduct awareness raising activities on the importance of nature and a circular economy.

Meanwhile, Woori Financial Group announced on March 29 that it held an official sponsorship agreement-signing ceremony for the Korea e-Sports Association National Team participating in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games in China at the Woori Financial Group headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul on March 28.

The signing ceremony was attended by Chairman Sohn Tae-seung, Korean e-Sports Association Chairman Kim Young-man, and IOC athlete member Yoo Seung-min among other VIPs.

For the first time in the Asian Games, e-sports was selected as one of official events in eight categories at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. 

As an associate member of the Korea Sports Association, the Korea e-Sports Association is expanding Korea¡¯s influence in the international e-sports world by expanding the base of domestic game events and designating domestic games as e-sports events.

In particular, the Korea e-Sports Association is looking to use this as an opportunity to confirm Korea¡¯s status as a leading nation in e-sports through the Asian Games such as national team selection, national team training and marketing with e-Sports Team Korea.

Woori Financial Group, which has set 2022 as the year of becoming a digital-based financial group, will not only establish itself as a general digital financial group that surpasses digital platform companies but also actively support e-sports as a financial group representing the MZ generation. 

Moreover, Woori Financial Group supports the national team at the group level and Woori Bank the League of Legends (LOL) league, the most popular sport that has been sponsored since 2019. By doing so, they can create synergies in terms of the group¡¯s overall brand strategy.

¡°Woori Financial Group is promoting super-digital innovation to complete its digital-based comprehensive financial group system,¡± Chairman Sohn said. ¡°We will actively support e-sports which the MZ generation is excited about in various ways.¡±
