Incheon International Airport Corp. (IIAC) struck an MOU on the building of the tentatively named K-Digital Museum, a media art exhibition hall, in the airport with Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), IIAC said on Feb. 25.
IIAC is making preparations for building a digital culture space designed to spread Korea¡¯s representative culture and art content at the Passenger Terminal One Traffic Center of Incheon International Airport.
The K-Digital Museum will be opened in the first half of this year.
Under the agreement, both sides agreed to cooperate in certain areas, such as the provision and operation of exhibition and experience space, building and operation of space, and the provision of content.
The K-Digital Museum will have two exhibition halls with a combined 396 sq. meters in floor space, plus an event hall.
It is expected to offer differentiated art and culture services, such as real experience media videos containing Korea¡¯s representative content to the airport¡¯s passengers.
IIAC President Kim Kyung-wook said, ¡°The collaboration is expected to develop K-content and help Incheon International Airport lay a corner stone to realize a global culture and art hub.¡±
IIAC plans to future strengthen the airport¡¯s future competitiveness in the post-COVID-19 pandemic by offering differentiated services to customers, he said.
Incheon International Airport, Asia¡¯s 1St Airport to Join RE 100
Incheon International Airport became Asia¡¯s first airport to join the ¡°RE 100¡± initiative of bringing together businesses committed to 100 percent renewable electricity.
IIAC said on Feb. 27 Incheon International Airport will convert all electricity necessary for its operation into 100 percent renewable energy by 2040. IIAC¡¯s deadline for converting 100 percent renewable energy by 2040 is 10 years earlier than 2050, set by RE100 initiative.
IIAC underwent a five month-long scrutiny to join the RE 100 initiative.
Incheon International Airport became Asia¡¯s first airport and the third one in the world following Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport, both in UK, to join the RE 100 initiative.

Incheon International Airport Places 2nd in International Flight Cargo Volumes
Incheon International Airport ranked second in terms of handling cargo volumes on international routes.
Figures, released by Airports Council International (ACI), showed that Incheon International Airport handled 3,273,000 tons of cargo volumes last year, showing a growth rate of 18.6 percent, the highest among the world¡¯s top three airports.
Incheon International Airport ranked second by defeating Shanghai International Airport, which handled 3,248,000 tons.
