President Kim Young-moon of Korea East-West Power Co. (EWP) said, ¡°Energy transition is mandatory for survival and growth, not an option.¡±
President Kim made the remarks in his New Year¡¯s message.
¡°Stopping and reducing coal-fired power generation has turned into reality, and power generation cannot be imagined without considering eco-friendliness,¡± he said.
¡°The start of the ¡®Renewable Energy Development Sphere Center,¡¯ a field pioneer to develop new business models and explore renewable energy projects is encouraging,¡± President Kim said.
One hundred people will soon begin to create business models for energy transition and energy efficiency, he added.
Kim stressed the need to develop new business models for renewable energies to overcome the limitations of the narrow territory, saying, ¡°We¡¯re dreaming a future of successfully commercializing building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) and solar road projects on the expanding of farming photovoltaic power.¡±
As for energy efficiency projects, he said, ¡°They are not only the most economical and efficient means of achieving carbon neutrality, greatly contributing to greenhouse gas emission reductions, but also an axis of future growth engine.¡±
EWP will create new business projects by expanding a prospective customer base, such as university campuses across the nation, energy companies and industrial complexes, he noted.
President Kim Young-moon of Korea East-West Power Co. (EWP) participates in the new year¡¯s first management strategy meeting with all worksites across the nation via an online teleconference system at Dangjin Power Plant in Chungcheongnam-do on Jan. 4.
President Kim emphasized that EWP should implement energy transition in cooperation with cooperative companies and neighborhood residents.
The power company has to explore and support diverse projects related to the development of technologies necessary for the energy transition and the value chain of renewable energies.
¡°The values we now need are flexibility to nimbly cope with changes and creativity of exploring new markets,¡± he said.
Kim called for in-house reform by overhauling the authoritarian culture of stabilizing the operation of power facilities.
Kim said, ¡°Safety cannot be compromised at any situation.¡± He demanded everyone, including cooperative companies, make joint efforts to make worksites safe.
The following are excerpts of President Kim¡¯s message.
Last year, we reestablished a vision of being an eco-friendly energy transition leader and declared a bid to spearhead the energy transition.
To this end, we overhauled mid- and long-term management strategies and built a bigger frame by completing a reorganization that was designed to ramp up renewable energies and new businesses.
The ¡°work diet¡± has so far reduced conventional duty inefficiencies, and EWP pondered how to prepare for the future. It proposed creative ideas at town hall meetings.
We at EWP have more tasks to be tackled in the new year. We face a reality in which we have to explore paths we have yet to take.
We should come up with effective ways of overhauling our company¡¯s mission of stabilizing the supply of the national¡¯s energy needs and implement them on the scene.
In this context, we speak of the tasks we should implement this year.
First, we have to secure new growth engines by spearheading energy transition.
Second, EWP should promote shared growth with cooperative companies and neighborhood communities.
Third, we have to achieve in-house reform by overhauling the corporate culture.
Fourth, EWP should make worksites safe.
