In his New Year¡¯s message, Chairman Choi Chang-ho of National Forestry Cooperative Federation (NFCF) pledged to nurture NFCF for cooperative members and forestry for people.

Chairman Choi said, ¡°Last year, NFCF implemented support for the selling of forestry products and forestry financing to ease hardships people experienced in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, and contributed to introducing a subsidy in the public interests of the forestry industry.¡±

In the Year of Imin, he said NFCF will fulfill its roles as an entity for forest owners and people in the forestry industry.
To this end, he said, first the NFCF will continue to play roles for cooperatives and members.

The federation plans to overhaul systems related to its operation to help member cooperatives put into practice autonomous and responsible management and support new projects.

In particular, NFCF will seek to revise related laws so it can be engaged in the mutual financing business in cooperation with cooperatives to reinvigorate mutual financing.

Second, he said NFCF will not spare its resources to build a foundation to help forest owners and people in the forestry industry lead stable lives.

Through forest management consultants whose budgetary allocation has increased, NFCF plans to publicize on a national scale a regime of subsidizing people in the forestry industry on top of raising the quality of forest management consulting.

Third, he said NFCF plans to aggressively nurture forests through communication with people. In this context, the federation will support forest culture events, such as the 15th World Forest Congress, to be held this year, and Gangwon Forestry Exhibition 2023, to awaken the importance of forests and publicize something to enjoy.

NFCF plans to take the initiative in the prevention and restoration of forest disasters to ensure people¡¯s safety.

NFCF Chairman Choi said the federation, marking the 6oth anniversary this year, will strive to make it an entity designed to promote the interests of forest owners and people in the forest industry.

He called for many people¡¯s support that forest cooperatives can solidify their identity and demonstrate magnanimity of accepting changes and new things in the new year.

¡®More Efforts on Circular Management Will be Made to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions¡¯

In an article contributed by NFCF Chairman Choi, he said the federation, which will mark its 60th anniversary this year, has implemented projects in each stage of forest management, ranging from afforestation to caring for forests and harvesting lumber.

Of late, NFCF has endeavored to build a regime focusing on integrating and circulating each stage.

The federation plans to contribute to retain forest management by protecting the rights of people in the forest industry, caring for forests, utilizing forest resources and raising their incomes.

The nation¡¯s forest area has shown signs of decline over the past decade, due to rising cases of more farmland and commercial development, transportation and other facilities.

If ample incomes can be attained through forest management, changing forest areas into land not related to forests can be minimized.

Above all, he said he solicits people¡¯s understanding and support for circular management of forests. NFCF seeks to ask for cooperation from related authorities so that an eco-friendly forest management regime can be built.

Climate change is a task the government, companies and all people will have to tackle together. NFCF plans to concentrate on forests¡¯ ability to absorb carbon.

By doing so, the federation will devote itself to fulfilling its roles and responsibilities.
