In his New Year¡¯s message on Jan. 3, K-water President Park Jae-hyeon said K-water will have to make 2022 the first year to actualize the realization of a nexus between water, energy, city and ESG.
Looking back at last year, President Park said, ¡°K-water had achieved a qualitative shift into a company leading ESG management and eco-friendliness transition to find solutions to crises of climate change and the pandemic.¡±
President Kim proposed five core tasks to further make a leap forward as the world¡¯s top-tier integrated water platform company, without wavering despite any changes and crises.
President Kim pledged to produce and supply quality water that the state and people want by demonstrating capabilities of an entity specializing in water management, and opening streams of eco-friendly water by connecting multi-purpose dams and rivers via digital technologies.
President Kim said K-water will establish an integrated management regime involving multi-purpose dams and rivers. To protect people¡¯s safety and happiness via dam renovation encompassing the ecology, culture and safety, K-water will do so by expanding the Seomjin River basin to five other rivers and realizing integrated water management.
K-water will improve the water quality of river basins in earnest while restoring the ecosystem of dam basin areas and building water-front ecological belts.
K-water will successfully complete a project to restore the brackish water zones of the estuary of the Nakdong River, he said.
President Kim said his corporation will lead overall innovation and advancement of national tap water networks.
The corporation will expand the quality of tap water, complying with that of food hygiene, to tap water purification centers of metropolitan cities across the nation while shifting to a next-generation tap water system using digital innovation technologies such as AI fast.
K-water will make efforts to advance tap water of provincial areas through smart water management, modernization projects and river basin support centers, he said.
Second, K-water will expand efforts to make renewable energies using water amid the era of carbon neutrality. K-water will speed up floating photovoltaic power projects at multi-purpose dams to make them the ¡°gem of renewable energies,¡± while striving to expand hydrothermal energy to the private sector, and local administrative bodies with a focus on building a hydrothermal cluster in Gangwon-do.
K-water will spearhead the realization of carbon neutrality by 2050 by leading the production of distributing of green hydrogen based on its renewable energy facilities such as hydroelectric and tidal water power.
Third, the corporation vowed to secure a foothold to ramp up global water management leadership based on the nexus between water, energy and city.
K-water plans to come up with plans to specialize in climate change elasticity municipal solutions to cope with climate change and environmental issues, such as water safety, integrated city flood management and environmental renewable energy, he said.
The corporation also plans to promote shared growth by expanding digital water platforms and Regional New Deal Investments, and leading the innovation of the Korean water industry ecosystem while ramping up support for the raw materials, parts and equipment industries, Kim said.
K-water plans to make a leap forward as a global water management platform company by exploring overseas sustainable projects with a focus on foreign business centers, he said.
Fourth, K-water pledged to become a public entity to realize people-oriented water management by upgrading ESG management and environmental and social responsibility.
He said the corporation will build up sympathy by communicating with people to build ESG values over overall management sectors while expanding realization of social values such as creation of good jobs, implementation of fair contracts, and strengthening of safety management.
The corporation also plans to produce achievements people can experience by ramping up cooperation with diverse stakeholders and expanding communication channels with people, he said.
Lastly, President Kim said, K-water will make its worksites pleasant places that all staffers can take pride in by overhauling its corporate culture into a higher degree of integrity and ethics management.
He called for all employees to make in-house efforts to build a corporate culture surpassing all generations into a K-water of integrity, trusted by people.
