Shinhan Bank will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2022. In his New Year message for 2022, Jin Ok-dong, president of Shinhan Bank, promised to make the bank a company that benefits customers and society, while contributing to the growth of the Korean economy.
¡°We need to increase flexibility through internal innovation and overcome any crisis with strong execution power,¡± Shinhan Bank President Jin said. ¡°Let¡¯s work hard to make Shinhan a world-class bank.¡±
President Jin declared Shinhan Bank¡¯s strategic goal as ¡°Customer-Oriented RE: Boot! Banking that Overcomes Limitations.¡±
¡°In 2022, everyone had a hard year due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic,¡± Jin said. ¡°We had no choice but to distance ourselves from one another, worrying about safety and health.¡±
¡°Even in the midst of such difficult situations, efforts for win-win growth never stopped,¡± he continued.
¡°So, I sincerely thank our employee for their dedication and hard work. We worked hard to help customers and neighbors in need, responded to numerous difficulties and tough tasks and helped one another.¡±
¡°It will not be easy to completely escape from the influence of the COVID-19 in 2022, I think,¡± he said. ¡°The non-face-to-face trend triggered by the pandemic will accelerate the digital transformation of society as a whole.¡±
President Jin also stressed that ESG management is an essential requirement for corporate survival.
¡°The emergence of COVID-19 variants and concerns over a global inflation add to uncertainty and demands a more flexible attitude from us,¡± he said.
In this regard, President Jin said, ¡°Our future depends on innovation through which we are not afraid of suffering failure,¡± he stressed.
¡°Those who control themselves are truly strong people. Our competitors are none other than ourselves in 2022 as they were in 2021.¡±
As an action plan to this end, President Jin suggested three points: concentrating capabilities on the development of easier, more convenient and newer platforms, taking the initiative in diffusing social finance by means of sustainable management and all employees leading culture internalization.
Shinhan Bank needs to accelerate ESG management to be a leader that sets an example for others, according to President Jin.
¡°In line with Shinhan Financial Group's mid-term environmental vision of ¡®Zero Carbon Drive,¡¯ we need to focus on eco-friendly finance that encompasses loans, project financing, investment and the promotion of a culture for carbon neutrality,¡± Jin continued.
President Jin looked forward to spreading the positive effects of finance farther through systematic management and implementation of ESG strategies.
¡°We need to gather wisdom to overcome the COVID-19 crisis,¡± he said. ¡°In particular, we will continue to provide generous support for small business owners and self-employed people who have been hit hardest.¡±
¡°Let¡¯s move toward our goal of making Shinhan Bank an easier, more convenient and newer bank while keeping in mind Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s core values — Right, Fast and Different,¡± Jin concluded.
