Samsung Electronics Merges CE and IM Businesses to Brace for Era of Convergence

Samsung Electronics inaugurated the Device eXperience (DX) Business by consolidating the Consumer Electronics (CE) and IT & Mobile (IM) businesses, in the latest reorganization late last year.

Vice Chairman and CEO Han Jong-hee is in charge of business categories such as TVs, home appliances, medical devices, smartphones and networks.

The move may be construed as Samsung Electronics’ bid to brace for an era of convergence, with barriers among entities giving away.

Samsung Electronics plans to offer synergetic effects as “One Samsung” by raising the values of customers’ lives and supplying profound and meaningful experiences.

The electronics giant plans to focus on customers’ experiences (CXs) and multi-device experiences (MDEs) by utilizing strengths of owning diverse devices.

The Device Solution (DS) Business specializing in the semiconductor business has set the 2022 goals: Advancing the development of state-of-the-art processes and strengthening global leadership.

Specifically, Samsung Electronics plans to showcase innovative next-generation solutions such as 14-nano or less DRAMs and more than 200-layer NAND Flesh memories and upgrade the memory segment’s unit competitiveness one stage.

Samsung Electronics has set the 2022 goal for the system semiconductor sector as developing advanced Processes.

Samsung Electronics has come up with massive investment plans to achieve the “System Semiconductor Vision 2030.”

The company will pour 171 trillion won into R&D and facility investments by 2030.

‘Samsung Electronics Endeavors to Raise Business Standing by Offering Customer Experiences’

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman and CEO Han Jong-hee and President and CEO Kyung Kye-hyun issued a joint New Year’s message on Jan. 3.

Vice Chairman Han heads the merged DX Business while President Kyung is head of the DS Division.

Vice Chairman Han and President Kyung extended thanks to their executives and staffers, saying, “Last year saw lots of hardships due to the protracted pandemic, and we reaped good outcomes by restoring our competitiveness through concentrating on technology development and increasing investments.”

Concluding that businesses are facing fierce completion, they said, “In the year 2022, we have to make changes anew.”

In particular, they called for a shift to an environment in which individuals’ creativity is respected and anyone can concentrate on raising values, saying that the past’s business models, inflexible processes and cultures that do not suit the trends of the times should be thrown away.

Vice Chairman Han and President Kyung suggested the buzzwords of the new year as prioritizing customers, acceptance of culture and spearheading ESG.

“Technology innovation toward customers has become the backbone of what Samsung Electronics is, and the world’s top-tier technology power is a part in which we cannot give up,” they said.

“From now on moving further, customers should be the important value we appreciate and we have to make efforts to deliver the best customer experiences,” they added.

Samsung Electronics held a ceremony to kick off the 2022 business year at Samsung Digital City in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, on Jan. 3.

Among about 100 executives and staffers on hand at the event were Samsung Electronics President Kyung Kye-hyun, President Lee Jung-bae of Samsung Electronics’ Memory Business, President Choi Si-young of Samsung Electronics’ Foundry Business, President Chun Kyung-hoon of Samsung Electronics’ Network Business.

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee, President Roh Tae-moon of Samsung Electronics’ MX Business and President Lee Jae-seung of Samsung Electronics’ Life Home Appliance Business were not present at the event since they went abroad to participate in CES 2022, being held in Las Vegas from Jan. 5 and Jan. 7. The ceremony was broadcast live to the worksites.
