Chairman Kim Han-young of Korea National Railway (KR) said the organization will implement railway construction projects this year without as planned.
KR Chairman Kim said the company will improve public transportation convenience by opening five railway routes, including one connecting Danggogae and Jinjeop, and launching 60 new projects this year.
In his New Year¡¯s message, KR Chairman Kim said KR will implement railway construction projects without delay to build a sustainable railway-oriented transportation structure.
Chairman Kim said KR will come up with a plan to build railway networks from the integrated and long-term perspective to build a sustainable railroad-oriented transportation structure.
In particular, he called for KR employees to make efforts to implement railway projects such as double-tracking of the Osong-Pyeongtaek Line and Gangneung-Jejin railroad line project without a hitch, according to the 4th national railroad network plan.
Kim stressed safety management in the wake of the enforcement of the Act on the Punishment of Serious Disasters.
¡°Dangerous factors will be prevented proactively by thorough filed inspection and safety activities in connection with the Act on the Punishment of Serious Disasters, and KR will make sure railway construction sites are accident-free through overall efforts such as aggressive investment and preventive education,¡± he said.

KR Opens Icheon-Chungju Section of Jungbu Line to Public
KR held a ceremony to open the Icheon-Chungju section of the Jungbu Inland Line at Chungju Station. In attendance were dignitaries, including the minister of land, infrastructure and transportation, on Dec. 30.
The newly opened Icheon-Chungju Line, stretching 54 in length is part of the 93-km-long Jungbu Inland Line, connecting Incheon and Mungyeong. The Chungju-Mungyeong section is now under construction.
The Icheon-Chungju project cost 1,214.3 billion won. The project was completed 16 years after it was launched in 2005.
KR Holds Ground-Breaking Ceremony on Gangneung-Jejin Railroad Route
KR held a ground-breaking ceremony for the Gangneung-Jejin railroad route at Jejin Station of Donghae Line in the presence of President Moon Jae-in on Jan. 5.
At the event, KR Chairman Kim said, ¡°When the Donghae North Line is completed, it will be an integrated railroad network connecting the Korean Peninsula horizontally and vertically, thus contributing to creating a driving force in the Gangwon-do area and greatly promoting balanced national development.¡±
KR will implement a railroad route connecting Pohang and Samcheok seamlessly, on top of the Donghae North Line, to realize a new economic map of the peninsula through connectivity with the trans-continent networks, he said.
MOLIT Hosts GICC 2021
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea (MOLIT) hosted the Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference 2021 (GICC 2021) from Nov. 15 to 16 at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul.
The GICC 2021 featured ¡®High-level Bilateral Talks,¡¯ ¡®One-on-One Project Meetings¡¯ with the foreign state public works agencies for access to project information and networking for partnerships on the projects.
In 2020, the GICC was held online only due to the spread of COVID-19 around the world. But with the shift to the ¡®With Corona¡¯ in Korea, the GICC 2021 was held as a hybrid event with the local participants meeting face-to-face and the overseas attendees joining the conference online.
